Mr. Jay Wilton Small, 73, of Clemmons passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. Jay was born August 20, 1940, in New London, CT to the late Delwin Small and Orlaine Libby Small. He was a veteran of the US Army National Guard and Reserves. Jay married the love of his life on September 19, 1964. The marine business was his passion for over 50 years; he was employed by Mercury Marine and finished his career at Webster Lake Marine in Webster, MA. Jay was also a firefighter for many years serving the communities of Mystic, CT and Dudley, MA. Jay had overcome many adversity’s and life’s challenges yet, never allowing them to change him as a person in his respect, kindness, and determination to continue to live life to it’s fullest. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne Elizabeth Small of the home; one son, Rob W. Small of Clemmons; two granddaughters, Emily and Abby Small of Clemmons; a sister, Delaine Simonds and husband, John of Voluntown, CT and many friends. A celebration of life was held Monday, August 4th at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Service, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, CT 06320.
