Mr. Ray Vaughan Poole, “Paw Paw”, 92, of Winston- Salem died Friday, August 8, 2014 following a brief illness. He was born May 7, 1922 in Fries (Spring Valley), Va., and was the son of O. Maiden Poole and Stella Forest Vaughan. He was a member of West Haven Baptist Church in Clemmons. On July 3, 1943, he was married to Edna Leota Funk, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Jerome “Jerry” Vaughan Poole (Linda) of Pinnacle, NC , his daughter, Dawn P. Lovern (Larkin “Skeebo”) of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Jessica K. Poole (Tommy) of Minooka, IL.: three grandsons, Matthew “Matt” Vaughan Poole (Andrea) of Forest Park, IL., Christopher “Chris” I. Poole (Jessica) of Wheaton, IL., and Benjamin E. “Manny” Vaughan Lovern of Winston- Salem; his great- grandson Benjamin Thomas Tucker of Minooka, IL , his nephew, Larry Poole of Cana, VA., along with numerous other nieces and nephews. Mr. Poole served in the US Navy during WWII. After graduating from VA Tech, he became an Industrial Engineer at Western Electric/ AT&T for 35 years. He was a member of the Wake Forest Cardiovascular Program for 15 years. The family will receive friends, Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at West Haven Baptist Church in Clemmons, NC. The Funeral Service was conducted Saturday, August 16, at West Haven Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen T. Johnson and Rev. Nat Thompson officiating. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Winston- Salem Rescue Mission, 717 Oak Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
