Anna-Lena Cooper, 94, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Regency Care of Clemmons. She was born October 9, 1919 in Wake County to George Winston Cooper and Grace Kiger Cooper. She moved to Clemmons at a young age, graduating from Clemmons High School and then from Appalachian University. She followed with a teaching career that spanned over 40 years in the Winston-Salem-Forsyth County School System. She was both a lifetime and the oldest living member of Clemmons First Baptist Church, a charter member of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Classroom Teachers Association and a Past President of the NC Classroom Teachers Association. A member of the Alpha Kappa Delta Sorority, she served as the State President from 1960 to 1962, was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Delta North Carolina Hall of Fame in 2004 and had received her 50 year Golden Star. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother George Winston Cooper, Sr. and a sister, Sarah Cooper Bradshaw. She is survived by three nieces, Deborah Cooper, Lois Bradshaw-Gordon and Rebecca Cooper Hampton. A memorial service was held Saturday, August 23rd at Clemmons First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Don Gordon. Burial will be private.
