Norman George Schumaker
Dec. 18, 1931-August 22, 2014
Mr. Norman George Schumaker was received by our Heavenly Father August 22, 2014. Born December 18, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Walter Wilhelm and Mildred Helen Schumacher, Norman married Mary Ellen Crawley of Newfoundland, Canada on March 17, 1954. He was preceded in death by his wife, and by his son John Raymond Schumaker, and siblings Delbert and Carol-Sue. Norm proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1952 through 1958, and also in the US Air Force from 1958 through 1961. He utilized his military training and trade as a mechanical engineer and draftsman throughout his career for the next 12-13 years at Grumman Aviation in New York, and then relocated to Winston-Salem in 1973 for employment for the next 3-4 years at Fairchild-Burns Aeroseat. Changing gears, Norm worked with Schlitz Brewing Co., which later became Stroh’s, and pursued a hobby business, Schumacher Graphics of NC, in which he crafted beautiful sandblasted redwood signs. He fully retired at the age of 62 in 1993. Norm became known as Pop-Pop to his many grandchildren, and loved his role as mentor and protector of his entire family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, photography, drawing, painting and writing, just to name a few of his many hobbies and talents. A devout Catholic, Norm was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, serving his church community. He was truly an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be greatly missed by many and all who knew him. He is survived by his children: Mary Patricia, Katherine, Walter ( Jeanne), Christine (Skip), Carol-Sue( Michael), Lorraine (John), Norman, Phenice { John Schumaker) and Delbert ( Shelly).
