Danny Blane Winters
Mr. Danny Blane Winters, 56, of Clemmons, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born February 12, 1960 in Davie County and was employed with UPS. Surviving are his wife, Rhonda Garrett Winters; three sons, Justin Winters and his wife Candace, Kyle Winters and his wife Natalie and Shane Winters; stepdaughter, Jessica Turner; five grandchildren Christian Cooper, Logan Winters, Eden Winters, Arden Winters, and Joey Winters; his parents, Jacqueline Wagner Winters and Bobby Greene Winters; one sister, Marilynn Kistler and her husband Richard, and one brother, Brent Winters and his wife Melissa; and many nephews, all who loved him very much. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Center Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Clarence Huie and his nephew, Rev. Seth Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and following the service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the youth baseball organization of your choice. Danny loved all sports, but baseball held a special place in his heart. The baseball family of the Triad will forever remember his contributions to the game. Richard “Dick” John Basto

Richard “Dick” John Basto, 92, of Winston-Salem, NC died Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Trinity Elms Assisted Living. Richard was born in Richmond, Virginia on April 22, 1924 to Rosina and Riccardo Leone Basto. Richard proudly served his country during WWII in the US Navy aboard the USS Panamint. He returned home in February of 1946 and attended Hampden-Sydney College graduating in May 1950. It was here he met his love, Jean Meredith Turner, whom he married August 12, 1950. In 1961, he was transferred from Richmond to Winston-Salem where their four children were raised. Richard worked as a pharmaceutical representative for A.H. Robins for 25 years. Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years and children, John (Susan), Jennifer Merritt (Jim), Roger and Christopher (Kimberly), 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael, and his sisters, Christina and Mary. Visitation will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park, 3771 Yadkinville Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106 in the Mausoleum Chapel on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 11:00am to noon with the Memorial Service immediately following. Special thanks are extended to the wonderful caregivers at Trinity Elms whose skilled attention, pleasant attitudes and beautiful smiles made his final days far more enjoyable. Benjamin Wilfred Barkley

Benjamin Wilfred Barkley, 43, of Peace Haven Rd., passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 9, 1973 in Portsmouth, VA, he was a son of Maxine Hindle Barkley of Winston-Salem and the late Wilfred Barkley. Ben was a gentle giant who spent five years in Canada where he met his wife, Jodi of sixteen years. He loved music, his five poodles and was a huge movie trivia buff. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jodi Smit Barkley; daughter, Ivy Barkley both of the home; brother, Terry Paul Hindle and wife Susan of Greensboro; Aunt, Janet Sullivan of Winston-Salem; in-laws, Jerry and Jan Smit of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jennifer and John Kilburn of Neepawa, Manitoba, Jacki and Adam Erstelle of Cumming, GA; nieces and nephews, Maddy and Macey Kilburn, Zoey and Kurt Benjamin Erstelle, Cece and Walker Hindle and Kaley and Kamryn Mueller; close friends, John Bays of Durham and Nathan Mueller and wife Leigh of Kernersville. Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 9, 2016 in Clemmons Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Hoyle officiating. Etta Yokely Saunders
August 15, 1923 – June 29, 2016
Etta Yokely Saunders, 92, of Bermuda Run passed away on June 29, 2016. She was born August 15, 1923 in Forsyth County to Walter and Maggie Yokely who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her son Stephen Young, granddaughter Tina Peddycord May, four siblings (Evelyn, Roger, Florence and Earl), husbands Thomas Hutchens and Roy Saunders, sons-in-laws Gary Marshall and Jack Crutchfield. She is survived by daughters Jeannie Marshall and Janet Crutchfield Hensdale (David) as well as granddaughters April Ingram (Billy), Brooke Harris (Levon), Brittany Bennett (Donnie) and Brad Marshall. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Ryan Peddycord, Brianna May, Chloe Bennett, Liam Bennett, Blake Ingram and Bailey Ingram, sister Nell Ann Keck, step-daughter Dee Flynt and her family as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Anthony Kummer for his care and compassion for our mother for many years. We also appreciated the caring staff of Advanced Home Care, Trinity Elms of Clemmons, as well as Hospice of Davie and Forsyth County. A graveside service was held on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church cemetery.
