Donnie Maxton Newsom died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, November 28th 2017. Donnie was born on October 6th, 1952 in Forsyth County to Corrina Jane Coleman Newsom and Corliss Maxton Newsom. Donnie was a graduate of West Forsyth High School and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from US Airways as a mechanic after 27 years of service. Currently, he worked at FedEx and was a devout entrepreneur. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sheila Saunders Newsom; two daughters, Chelsea Newsom McLaren of Winston-Salem (Eric) and Logan Dean Newsom of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Stephen P. Newsom (Delana) and Danny Newsom (Linda) of Winston-Salem; a sister, Betty Newsom Kiger (Dewey); many loved nieces, nephews, and close friends; and previously deceased brother Edwin Randall Newsom. Donnie leaves behind a legacy of caring for and loving his family and friends to the fullest extent. He touched the lives of many people and was a very hardworking, successful man. Donnie was baptized at an early age and showed his love for Christ through his actions of helping and serving others. He will be remembered most for his selfless approach to life and his caring heart. Visitation and funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church West Campus at 155 Commerce Place, Advance NC 27006 on Saturday December 2nd, 2017. Visitation will begin at 10:45 AM, with the service following at 12:30 PM. Interment will then follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory at 6135 Ridgecrest Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
