WINSTON-SALEM — A closure of Business 40 in both directions between Peters Creek Parkway and Cloverdale Avenue in Winston-Salem is planned for this weekend as contractor crews continue work on the new Peters Creek Parkway bridge, as well as the westbound exit ramp at the parkway.
The work will require the closure of the left lane of eastbound Business 40 as it approaches Cloverdale Avenue, as well as the left lane of westbound Business 40 near Broad Street. Both of those closures will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 29.
Then at 10 p.m., eastbound Business 40 will be shut down completely between Cloverdale Avenue and Peters Creek Parkway, and on the westbound side it will be closed between Broad Street and Cloverdale Avenue.
The highway is scheduled to be open again by 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 1.
Detour routes will be in place, as eastbound Business 40 traffic will have to exit at Cloverdale Avenue and use West 1st Street, and Peters Creek Parkway to get back to Business 40. Drivers going westbound will exit at Broad Street and go along West 1st Street and Cloverdale Avenue to make it back to Business 40.
To avoid the closure completely, drivers traveling through Winston-Salem are encouraged to use Interstate 40 and U.S. 52.
Motorists are urged to slow down and pay extra attention as they travel through the work zone.
