Children’s programs:

Children’s story times: Join in for great books, finger plays, songs and crafts. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers (ages 18 months-3 years), Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers (ages 3-5).

Chess Club: Come join in at the Clemmons Branch Library to play the game of kings. Chess sets will be provided so bring your moves. Open to beginners and players with all levels of expertise. For to ages 7-17. The next meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.

“The Ruler’s Crown” presented by the Museum of Anthropology: Join in on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. for a presentation by the Museum of Anthropology on the crowns of the Yoruba people of West Africa, which will include creating and decorating a crown to take home. Adult programs:

Who Are The Igbo?: On Thursday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. get an introduction to the culture of the Igbo people in Nigeria. Presented by the Museum of Anthropology.

Alzheimer’s and Related Dementia: On Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m., come to the Clemmons Branch Library to learn the characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease, and an overview of other common dementias and their characteristics. Presented by Presented by the N.C. Geriatric & Adult Mental Health Specialty Team.

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles.

Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking, and discuss the recipes. Call the library at 336-703-2920 if you have questions.  The program will last about one hour. The next meeting is at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the auditorium at 3554 Clemmons Road. Learn to access Clemmons Historical Society’s digital files

Accessing Clemmons Historical Society’s digitized collections on the website of N.C. Digital Heritage Center (www.digitalnc.org) will be the focus of the society’s meeting from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Clemmons Library Auditorium. 
Susan deGuzman, a Forsyth County Library assistant, will demonstrate how to access the society’s digital files. deGuzman was the key volunteer in getting Clemmons Historical Society’s files digitized. Members are invited to bring their laptops.
Digitized files currently online include Clemmons High School yearbooks, Clemmons Community Development scrapbooks and Dottie Nifong handwritten archives.
Other Clemmons digital files located elsewhere on the internet are “Brethren with Stethscopes” by Dottie Nifong, and “Poor Peter’s Call…” by Peter Clemmons.
A short business meeting will proceed the program. Members as well as friends of the society are welcome to attend.

Free clothes giveaway

On Sept. 22, Rev. Dr. Vincent Howell, pastor of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Clemmons, will  preach the sermon  entitled, “The Call from of God.” Services begin at 10:45 a.m. Sunday school will start at 9:30 a.m. A fellowship time, with coffee and refreshments, will be held between the services.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, the church will hold a free clothes giveaway from 10 a.m.-noon (fourth Saturday of each month). There are no sign-up requirements or restrictions — everyone is welcome. Items will be available for youth and adults. Donations can also be made at this time. For more information, call the church at 336-766-5987. Forsyth County Republican Women to meet

The Forsyth County Republican Women will meet on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Mi Pueblo Restaurant on South Stratford Road.  Those who plan to eat should arrive by 5:30 p.m. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. The speakers will be Marjorie Dufek, the N.C. coordinator for the Concord Coalition and Judge April C. A service of Taizé Prayer

A service of Taizé Prayer for world peace and reconciliation will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, at Shallowford Presbyterian Church. The service of simple and contemplative sung prayer includes scripture readings and a time of silence. The outdoor Shallowford Labyrinth will be open for meditative walking before the service, and a brief introduction to the sung prayers will begin at 7:25 p.m. Shallowford Presbyterian Church is located 1200 Lewisville-Clemmons Road near the Lewisville-Clemmons Exit (242) of U.S. 421 next to Kaplan’s. Powerful Tools for Caregivers course

Registration is now underway for Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a 6-week course for anyone caring for a loved one who is frail or ill. Classes will take place 10:30 a.m.-noon on Thursdays from Oct. 17-Nov. 21 at the SECU Family House, 1970 Baldwin Lane. There is no charge, but donations are accepted. Registration is required. Classes are sponsored by the Shepherd’s Centers of Greater Winston-Salem, Family Caregiver Support Program, Senior Services, SECU Family House, and Daybreak Respite Program. Classes fill quickly, so early registration is suggested.

United 19 Youth Conference at Agape Faith Church

Agape Faith Church is hosting its annual United 19 Youth Conference on Sept. 20-21. Events include Friday night service, after-party, Saturday morning service, break-out sessions, and a Saturday night service. The focus of the conference will be on our authority in Christ Jesus and overcoming obstacles. This event will also feature ninja-themed challenges and activities, including a ninja warrior course, food trucks, a contest for hometown heroes, plus special American Ninja Warrior guests Daniel Gil (the Kingdom Ninja) and Hunter Roland (the Positive Ninja). You’ll get to hear from Daniel Gil, get photos and autographs, and watch him run the course. The course will also be open to the public.

Fall bazaar

Clemmons United Methodist Church is hosting its Fall Bazaar and Yard Sale on Friday, Oct. 11, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday Oct. 12, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shoppers will find two full floors of bargains on gently used items including books and puzzles, boutique/accessories, bakery and treats shoppe, children’s/men’s/women’s clothing, toys, baby items, crafts, elegant junque, furniture and accessories, holiday house, linens, small appliances and electronics, sporting goods, yard equipment and tools and more. Friday features a silent auction 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cash or checks only, no credit cards.

Village Farmers Market

Village Farmers Market-Village Hall will be every Tuesday from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at 3715 Clemmons Road in Clemmons. Parking is available front and back of the building. Weekly vendors are accepted. For more information call 336-766-7511.

Grief Share at Clemmons Presbyterian

Clemmons Presbyterian Church will offer a Grief Share Series beginning Sunday, Sept. 8, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the church parlor. Grief Share is a Christ-centered program designed to help those mourning the loss of a loved one. The program consists of videos, discussion and a personal workbook.  The program lasts for 13 weeks, but each session is standalone and not dependent on previous sessions.  No pre-registration is required and is open to the public. GriefShare program at Clemmons UMC

Clemmons United Methodist Church will begin a new 13-week series of GriefShare, a grief recovery seminar and grief support group on Monday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. in the ministry center. If you or someone you know is grieving the loss of a loved one, whether it be a parent, child, spouse or sibling, you are invited. Free cardiovascular screening

A Novant Health cardiovascular screening including blood tests will be hosted by Unity Moravian Church on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. This event is free to anyone 18 and older. Advanced registration is required by calling 336-277-1880 or emailing CommunityWellness@novanthealth.org. Unity Moravian Church is located at 8300 Concord Church Road in Lewisville.

Newcomers and Neighbors meeting

Newcomers and Neighbors of the greater Winston-Salem area holds its monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Coffee and social time is at 9:45 a.m. with meeting to follow. Jam sessions

Farmington Community Center at 1723 Farmington Road in Mocksville hosts a country music and gospel only jam session every Thursday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The center also hosts a bluegrass jam session every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. Bring whatever instrument you play and join the fun. Cover charge for listeners $2, players are free.

Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.  Your first meal is complimentary. Lewisville American Legion Post 522

Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Post also assists in veteran’s funerals. Meets every first Thursday at 7:30 p.m. At the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center directly behind Lewisville Library. Clemmons Food Pantry

The Clemmons Food Pantry, now located at 2585 Old Glory Road, Suite 109, Clemmons, is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. People may receive services or drop off donations at these times. www.clemmonsfoodpantry.org

Cross Stitching at Shiloh Lutheran

If you enjoy needle crafting, knit, cross-stitch, crochet and non-sewing blanket projects, consider joining the Busy Hands Group, every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Located at Shiloh Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 703 Lewisville-Vienna Rd, Lewisville, NC 27023. Items donated to sick, needy and shut-ins.
