Jimmy C. Flynn
Mr. Jimmy C. Flynn, 84, of Clemmons, passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at Trinity Elms in Clemmons. He was born in Surry County to the late Thomas Plase Flynn and Ethel Cook Flynn on Jan. 21, 1936. He served his country with the U.S. Navy. After the military, he served briefly as a Winston-Salem police officer. He retired from Champion Industries, then worked for Tanglewood. Flynn enjoyed camping, going on bus tours and music festivals, especially MerleFest. He loved his family and friends, and especially his beloved dog “Wormy.” Special thanks to the staff at Trinity Elms and Trellis Supportive Care for their kindness during this time. Flynn is survived by his wife of over 38 years, Betty M. Flynn; three children, Sonia Morris, Terri Bailey and Jimmy “Butch” Flynn Jr. ( Anna); seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Flynn (Lily); sister, Gloria Byrd (Glen). An inurnment graveside will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Lorraine Mitchell
Lorraine Mitchell, 89, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020. Mitchell was born March 11, 1931, in Rome, Georgia, to Charles and EmmieBell Smith Boalch. She was of the Baptist faith.
Always deeply devoted to her family, her duties as wife and mother came before all else. She loved holidays and spending time with her children and grandchildren and especially cooking for them all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James W. “Bill” Mitchell; and a sister, Venita Primm.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Essic (Preston) of Lewisville; two sons, Tom Mitchell of Alabama and Danny Mitchell of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Meredith Gomez (Manny) of Clemmons, Lorraine Fincher (Josh), Katelyn Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell (Sarah) and Will Mitchell, all of Alabama; six great-grandchildren, Brian and James Gomez of Clemmons, Joshua, Mary Kate, and Naomi Fincher and Gabriel Mitchell of Alabama.
A private graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2020, at Westlawn Garden of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to AARF of Winston-Salem, 311 Harvey Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
Joe Francis Pereira
Mr. Joe Francis Pereira, 76, passed away Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Sao Miguel Island, Portugal, on March 19, 1944. Pereira immigrated to the U.S. in 1963 at the age of 19. He met and married his wife, Olga Pereira, whom he met not long after arriving and they were married for 48 years. Pereira was a retired teamster from a trucking company. Preceding him in death was his wife. Surviving are two daughters, Irene Pries (Kevin) and Anna Pereira (Hugo Varela); two granddaughters, Jennifer Pries and Allison Pries and his beloved cat, “Malcome.” A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) North Carolina, 309 W. Millbrook Road, Suite 121 Raleigh, NC 27609 or to the National Kidney Foundation, 933 Louise Ave. Suite 101-B Charlotte, NC 28204. Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel is serving the Pereira family.
