Walker receives DAR Good Citizen award

The Battle of Shallow Ford Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, has announced Scott Walker, a senior at Parkland High School, was Parkland High School’s student recipient of the DAR Good Citizen award. Walker is the son of Scott Sr. and Brona Walker of Winston-Salem. The DAR Good Citizen program recognizes outstanding high school seniors, who exhibit good citizenship in their homes, schools, and communities, by exemplifying qualities of service, dependability, leadership and patriotism.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members

BATON ROUGE, LA. — The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

• Brittany Gearren, of Clemmons, at East Carolina University

• Sherona Frye, of Mocksville, at East Carolina University

• Mary Douglas, of Winston- Salem, at East Carolina University

• Christopher Jeffords, of Winston-Salem, at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte

They are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10% of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Furman University dean’s list

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Furman University has named Alex Nagy, of Clemmons, and Caden Parry, of Clemmons, to the dean’s list for the 2020 fall semester. Furman’s dean’s list is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher on a four-point system.

Marsh awarded gold stars at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charles Marsh, of Lewisville, is one of the more than 650 cadets and students recognized for their academic achievements during the fall 2020 semester.

Gold stars are awarded to cadets and students at The Citadel who achieved a 3.7 grade point average or higher. Cadets and students who achieve gold star recognition are also placed on The Citadel’s dean’s list.
