Red Cross Week at the Lewisville Library – Oct. 25-29 

Children’s programs

Music & Movement (in-person outdoors) 

Wednesdays from 10-10:30 a.m.

Shallowford Square Park, 6555 Shallowford Road, Lewisville

Join in for songs and activities designed to support learning in a fun and engaging way. Recommended for children ages 2-5 years and their caregivers, but all ages are welcome. Masks are required for those 5 and older. Space is limited to 10 families per program. Email Mia Jordan (jordanmc@forsyth.cc) to sign up.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest 

Oct. 1-21

Email a photo of your decorated or carved pumpkin to jordanmc@forsth.cc by Oct. 21. Photos will be posted on Lewisville Branch Library’s website and you may vote for your favorite creation via an online form from Oct. 22-28. The winning photo will be announced on Oct. 29. The winner will get a gift card. Friends of the Lewisville Branch Library provided the prize. All ages are welcome to participate.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Bilingual Storytime (in-person outdoors)

Thursday, Oct. 14, from 10-10:30 a.m.

Shallowford Square Park, 6555 Shallowford Road

Red Cross: The Pillowcase Project (Virtual) 

Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
For grades 3-5.

Red Cross volunteers will teach participants and their families how to be prepared and take action in the case of a home fire.

Visit the Lewisville Branch Library and get a treat to take home (while supplies last). Mini-comics and candy will be handed out. Mini-comics available for children, teens and adults. Paying for College — FAFSA/Scholarships (Virtual) 

Monday, Oct. 11, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

The process of applying for financial aid and scholarships can be more confusing and stressful than it needs to be. This seminar shares step-by-step advice for families, from how to estimate your eligibility to what forms to fill out to when to file them. Common questions will be answered, such as, “Can applying for financial aid hurt a student’s chances of admission?” and “Should you apply for aid even if you think you won’t qualify?” Also addressed are the role of scholarships, how to find them, and how to evaluate a student’s potential eligibility.

Yoga for Beginners (In-person & Virtual)

Join in at the Lewisville Branch auditorium or from home for two free yoga sessions to help uplift your mind and body during this stressful time. Red Cross — “The Red Cross Ready” (In person & Virtual) 

Monday, Oct. 25, 6 p.m.

Are you “Red Cross Ready” should an emergency or natural disaster strike? Join in along with the American Red Cross to learn about simple steps that can be taken to prepare yourself, your family, your pets and your home in these types of situations. This program will include how to create a disaster preparedness kit, how to make a household disaster plan, and why it is important to be prepared. The topic of home fires will also be a component of this program.

Red Cross — Disaster Preparedness for Seniors and Senior Caregivers (In person & Virtual) 

Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m.

What is your plan in an emergency or natural disaster? Who will you go to should you need help? Do you have a list readily available of medications and medical providers? The Red Cross will show you how to create a Preparedness Plan that addresses these questions and other important considerations that are particular to seniors and senior caregivers in the event of an emergency or a natural disaster. Spooktacular Blood Drive

Ghastly. Ghostly. Ghoulish. Giving? Ghouls, goblins, and other monsters with human blood are invited to donate blood to the American Red Cross at the Lewisville Branch Library.
