WINSTON-SALEM — When school is out for the holidays, parents may not be able to take the same amount of time off work while their children are out of school.
That’s why the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina offers a winter break camp at several locations from mid-December until students are back in the classroom in January.
“The holidays can be stressful enough as it is, then you add on having to find childcare for your kids when they’re out of school. Fortunately, we’re able to offer that service to our members and to folks who aren’t members of the Y,” said Chris Chunn, executive director of education and swim at the YMCA of NWNC.
Winter break camps include holiday-themed arts and crafts, songs and games and physical activities to keep kids moving and healthy. Camps are available at the locations listed below for the following days:
• Davie Family YMCA
Dec. 17-30 (closed on Dec. 24 and 31)
• Jerry Long Family YMCA
Dec. 22-Jan. 4 (closed on Dec. 24 and 31)
• Kernersville Family YMCA
Dec. 22-Jan. 4 (closed on Dec. 24 and 31)
• Statesville Family YMCA
Dec. 23-Jan. 4 (closed on Dec. 24 and 31)
• Stokes Family YMCA
Dec. 22-Jan. 3 (closed on Dec. 24 and 31)
• Wilkes Family YMCA
Dec. 20-Jan. 3 (closed on Dec. 24, 27 and 31)
• William G. White Jr. Family YMCA
Dec. 22-Jan. 4 (closed on Dec. 24 and 31)
The cost for winter break camp is $35 per day (per child) for Y members, and $45 per day for potential members. There is no cost for the children attending the Wilkes Family YMCA thanks to 21st Century Grant Funding, but registration is still required ahead of time.
Meals and snacks are not included during winter break camps, so families need to make sure to send lunch with their children.
