Levy Smith is the recipient of the 2022 Charles and Robin Paul Scholarship Award.
Smith attends Winston-Salem State University and is completing a bachelor’s degree in general biology. He is scheduled to graduate in May of 2023.
“A general biology degree includes many avenues in which I could potentially pursue such as scientific research, pharmacist, marine and conservation biology. As I consider my next best move, I want to take a look at all my choices and not limit myself to one area of biology,” Smith said.
Smith has served his community as summer camp counselor and as a referee in soccer and basketball and an umpire in youth baseball with Greenville Parks and Recreations. While at Winston-Salem State, he has been active with University Student Activities and Engagement in service projects such as street and campus clean ups, holiday family benefits and food drives. He is also a member of Men of Change and the African Student Association, groups working to teach, encourage, inspire and support student growth, specifically with African-American men, to develop personally, academically and professionally through leadership.
Started in 2021, The Charles and Robin Paul Scholarship Award provides up to $2,000 for a student who graduated from high school before 2022 and is a resident of Forsyth County. Applicants must be either working towards completing an academic or vocational program, with preference given to students planning to or currently attending Winston-Salem State University. The opportunity is open to students who have taken time away from their continuing education and are returning to school as well as those who never began a post-high school program until now.
“As a recipient of The Charles & Robin Paul Scholarship Award, I am thankful for your generosity extended and humbled by your contributions; which will be instrumental in getting me closer to my educational goal,” Smith said. “Therefore, I can reassure you that I will be making the most of the opportunity and will not be taking anything for granted. Once again, thank you for your investment in my future and me.”
