Forsyth Creek Week Library Raffle

For all ages

Check out a book or movie relating to water, our waterways or aquatic life at any Forsyth County Public Library branch from March 18-25 (during Forsyth Creek Week) to be entered into a drawing for a prize basket that includes two free kayak rentals at Salem Lake or a Pawpaw Planting Kit and more. Fill out an entry form at the circulation desk for each water-related item you check out. The winning name will be drawn during the last week of March. Bring your own bag or the Friends will provide one and take home a full bag of books for only $5. Donations welcome.

Nature Notebooks
• March 18 through May 31
• Lewisville Branch Library, 6490 Shallowford Road, Lewisville
Recommended for ages 5-11
Pick up your nature notebook at the Lewisville Branch Library starting on March 18 (while supplies last). Participants will find plants that are native to N.C. in the wild and draw them. When they have drawn a plant in each category required, participants will bring their notebooks to the Lewisville Branch Library for a prize. Participants will have until May 31 to complete their notebooks. Each nature notebook comes with a packet of wildflower seeds. Presented by Stormwater Smart of The Piedmont Triad Regional Council. Turtle Take & Make Craft

Pick up a craft kit to make a tiny turtle for celebrating Creek Week. Most supplies will be provided (you will need glue). Instructions will be included in each kit. While supplies last. Call 336-703-2940 for more information or email Emily at emersoem@forsyth.cc.

Teen programs

Lewisville-Clemmons Teen Advisory Board Meeting
• Tuesday, March 14, at 5 p.m.
• Lewisville Branch
The Lewisville-Clemmons Branch Teen Advisory Board is made up of teen volunteers from the Lewisville and Clemmons area. The board meets once a month, alternating between the Lewisville and Clemmons branches, and meets on the second Tuesday (during the school year) each month to discuss ways to improve both branches. The Teen Advisory Board helps to plan programs, create displays and suggests resources that the library should purchase. Yoga for Beginners (in-person and virtual)

Join in at the Lewisville Branch auditorium or from home for two free yoga sessions to help uplift your mind and body during this stressful time. Gardening Series: Right Plant, Right Place

How many times have you purchased a plant and put it into your garden only to have it fail to thrive? This class will take some of the guesswork out of selecting plants that will grow best in your garden. You will learn how to select plants based on their purpose, characteristics (size/color) and planting details (sun/shade). Betty Ann Faulkner, a long-time gardener and the owner of SereneScapes Gardens, will be the instructor. Registration is encouraged. Belly Dancing for Beginners

Get your shimmy on! Learn the basic moves of this beautiful dance form as people of all ages come together to promote health, happiness and community. Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Shed, Celebrating Forsyth County Creek Week (March 18-26)

Do you have the backyard blues because of runoff from heavy rain events? Stormwater SMART’s Danica Heflin will be at the Lewisville Branch to help you learn three simple strategies to control the flow: disconnection (downspout redirection), collection (rain barrels) and naturalization (gardening with native flowers, grasses, shrubs and trees). These methods make your landscape more resilient during and after heavy storms and help you save money on utilities. You’ll also be helping to improve the water quality in our creeks, streams and rivers. Need more motivation? Lucky participants will take home helpful freebies: You could win a rain barrel, mature native plants, wildflower seeds, gardening guides or a combination of prizes. Advance Care Planning Workshop
• Wednesday, March 29, at 1 p.m.
• Mary Alice Warren Community Center, Vienna Room

Do you have a health care power of attorney assigned? Do you have a living will? Learn about the purpose and importance of having advance care planning in place. Advance care planning is a process to help your loved ones know how to speak for you if you are ever unable to make your own medical decisions. Such instances can include if you undergo surgery, get a serious illness or are injured in an unexpected accident. A representative from Trellis Supportive Care will present and provide the necessary documents for you to assign a health care power of attorney and create a living will. They will also provide guidance for filling out these forms during the program. Registration is recommended.
