Soup Supper March 18 at Harmony Grove UMC

Harmony Grove UMC, 5041 Styers Ferry Road, Lewisville, NC, this Saturday, March 18th, from 4pm to 7pm, eat in with a donation, or carry out. The carry out is $7 a quart and $4 a pint.  There will be a variety of soups for all to enjoy plus delicious desserts. The United Methodist Men will sponsor this event. All are welcome.

Clemmons Civic Club Pancake Breakfast March 25

The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be held from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at the Clemmons Civic Club.
Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children. Money raised benefits scholarships for area high school students.
The Clemmons Civic Club is located at 2870 Middlebrook Dr. in Clemmons.

Welcome to Medicare Workshop

The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem is offering a virtual workshop for individuals turning 65 (as well as those who already have Medicare) to learn about the different insurance options available, including “Original Medicare,” Medicare prescription drug programs, Medicare supplements and Medicare Advantage plans.

The session will be held virtually via Zoom on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. through computer and telephone access.

The session is designed to explain and clarify the Medicare sign-up process and educate attendees on how to make smart choices. Trained Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) counselors will be available to answer general questions.

Free tax preparation offered by AARP Tax Aide through April 15

AARP Tax Aide will again provide free personal income tax return preparation and e-filing for personal federal and state income tax returns at the Clemmons Library from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. every Wednesday through April 15.

Everyone is welcome regardless of age or income. Some complicated returns might be beyond the scope of the program, but people are seldom turned away. Clients do not need to be a member of AARP.

Here are the steps that need to be followed to schedule an appointment.

1. Obtain a tax packet from one of the library branches listed below (or go to www.wstaxaide.com and print the forms).
2. Follow the instructions in the tax packet, including scheduling an appointment (or call 336-777-6189).
3. Appointments take place on the days listed below from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at one of the following library branches:
• Monday and Tuesday at Reynolda Manor Branch, 2839 Fairlawn Dr., Winston-Salem
• Wednesday at Clemmons Branch, 6365 James St., Clemmons
• Thursday and Friday at Southside Branch, 3155 Buchanan St., Winston-Salem
4. Walk-ins will be accommodated if possible. Be present by noon at the very latest. To speed up the process, obtain the tax packet above, follow the instructions, and bring the tax packet and all tax documents to the library. Both spouses must be present if filing jointly.
5. AARP Tax Aide prefers, but does not require, that the taxpayer has an email account.

DivorceCare at Clemmons UMC

Clemmons United Methodist Church will offer a 14-week DivorceCare Series on Wednesdays through April 12 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Ministry Center Room A-210.
DivorceCare is a safe place where caring people come together to help each other with healing from the pain of separation or divorce.
This video-based support group program offers helpful counsel to manage the emotional turmoil that the participants are experiencing. It will also offer practical tools for decision-making. To register for this group or for more information, go to DivorceCare\Groups\148328. All are welcome.

Free community Bible study and discussion

Literacy project needs volunteers

Read Write Spell needs volunteers to serve as tutors to public-school students. The project trains and supports volunteers and provides all of the tools necessary for success. An online information session for people interested in learning more about the program will be held Tuesday, April 11, at noon on Zoom.

‘Retirement Reimagined’ workshop to be offered

Taking a new view of the transition to retirement, Next Chapter: Retirement Reimagined, is a four-session workshop being offered by the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem. The workshop is for anyone who is already retired or contemplating retirement. It focuses on the non-financial side of retirement planning such as: deciding when or if to retire; managing one’s time; deciding where to live; the right volunteer or part-time work fits; interests and hobbies; couples in retirement; and other social, emotional, health and spiritual issues.

Through presentations, worksheets and activities and group discussion, the workshop will explore meaning and purpose in one’s retirement years, assess those interests and skills available to reinvest beyond one’s chosen career and create a personal plan from among the many options retirement presents for continued personal growth.

Each weekly session builds upon the previous ones and is a part of an integrated group experience. While unforeseen circumstances arise, individuals should be able to commit to attend all four sessions.

• When: March 21 and 28, and April 4 and 11 from 4-6 p.m. Workshop limited to 16 participants.

• Where: The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem, 1700 Ebert Street, Winston-Salem

• Facilitators: Pamela Karr, career counselor and certified professional retirement coach; and Susan Hunsinger, M.D. 

• Fee: A registration fee of $45 for the workshop covers the cost of resource materials and refreshments. Reservations are required by March 10.  Enrollment is limited to 16 and reservations are required.

Conversation & Cars

Conversation & Cars will be a free community event that offers you the opportunity to meet and chat with fellow automotive enthusiasts and gearheads from around Forsyth County, the Triad and beyond. Hosted by Speedology Lifestyle Solutions and HBi Auto. The event will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 1, at Forsyth Country Day School, 5501 Shallowford Road in Lewisville. Rain date will be Saturday, April 15.

Plenty of parking spaces will be available to accommodate car clubs and cruiser groups.

All domestic, import, classic and vintage and exotic cars are welcome, as well as trucks, Jeeps, SUVs and motorcycles.
