With the Titans all back in school after spring break and the fourth quarter officially underway, the village has been abuzz with activity over the past few weeks. West athletics have been on a roll lately, with most getting into the second half of their seasons. The boy’s indoor volleyball team made history last week, with the varsity team winning their debut match 3-0 at South Iredell on April 15. They played their first home game against Draughn on April 17, as well as an away game at Lexington on April 19. They host Lexington at home for their next game on April 26.
The girl’s varsity soccer team, who as of last week held the undefeated top spot in the Central Piedmont 4-A Conference, took down second place rival East Forsyth 2-0 on the road on April 12. They played two home games this week, R.J. Reynolds on April 17 and Mount Tabor on April 19. They take on Parkland on the road next on April 24. The varsity baseball team played Davie twice last week, taking a 4-2 win at home on April 11 and a 12-2 loss on the road on April 13. They had another conference matchup at home against R.J. Reynolds on April 18 and a home non-conference game against Asheboro on April 19, and will face Reynolds again on the road tomorrow, April 21. The varsity softball team suffered a 3-1 loss at Forbush last week on April 12, but bounced back to shutout Glenn 10-0 at home. They took on CPC rival Reagan Raiders at home on April 18 and West Stokes on the road on April 19, and will face Davie on the road Friday.
The boy’s lacrosse team lost to Reagan 16-11 on the road on April 11 before visiting Davie on April 13 and walking away with a 14-12 win. They faced off against R.J. Reynolds on the road on April 18 and will finish out the regular season at home versus East Forsyth tomorrow. The girl’s lacrosse team, on the other hand, beat both Reagan and Davie on the same days last week, 15-7 and 18-5, respectively. They also faced Reynolds on April 18 this week and had an additional game against Page at home on April 19. They will also close their regular season against East Forsyth at home Friday.
With prom just over a week away, students are starting to make more specific plans for the exciting event. Tickets went on sale today for all juniors and seniors and will be sold through most of next week. Prom will be held at the Millenium Center and the theme is “A Night in Hollywood.” Make sure to buy your tickets and come out at 7 p.m. on April 29 for a great night.
The clock is ticking down, and it’s only a matter of time before AP exams and the end of the school year. Keep working hard, Titans.
