MOCKSVILLE — A roadway construction project to a section of road in Davie County could impact Clemmons commuters for about two weeks while an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor constructs a roundabout.
The roundabout will be built at the top the Interstate 40 West at the Farmington Road ramp (Exit 174). Construction will require the closure of the west bound on/off ramps at Farmington Road. Farmington Road at the intersection with the I-40 Westbound ramps will also be closed.
Construction began on Monday and is expected to be complete by Aug. 18.
During the closure, drivers can follow these detours:
- I-40 West to Farmington Road north: U.S. 601 to N.C. 801
- I-40 West to Farmington Road south: U.S. 601 to loop back onto I-40 East
- I-40 East to Farmington Road north: N.C. 801 exit, then turn left
- Farmington Road south traffic: N.C. 801 to U.S. 601 to I-40 East
- Farmington Road north traffic: I-40 East to N.C. 801, turn left and follow signed detour
The department builds roundabouts to improve safety and traffic flow in an area. To watch a video and learn more about these types of intersections, visit this webpage.
NCDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time for their commute during the closure.
