LEWISVILLE — About 175 members of Lewisville United Methodist Church worshipped outside the walls of the church by putting their faith in action on Sept. 10.

Each year, on Servant Day, the Sunday closest to 9/11, the church family gathers for a brief time of worship in the sanctuary at 9 a.m. before dividing into service groups for all ages and abilities.

Groups sang and made tray favors for nursing home residents, visited home-bound members, installed shelves for the food pantry, worked on town beautification projects, planted in the community garden, wrote cards, sewed “buddy bears” for first responders and scarves for the homeless, and serving as volunteers for the church preschool, Open Arms Community, and World Relief Triad.

At 1 p.m., the church gathered for lunch in the fellowship hall.
