WINSTON-SALEM — The Carolina Disco Turkeys have announced their home game on July 4 at Wake Forest’s Couch Ballpark will now include a post-game Independence Day fireworks celebration.
The evening will also feature a handful of players on their roster with ties to Clemmons or Lewisville. Those locals include: pitcher Will Andrews, Penn State/Forsyth Country Day alum; pitcher Banks Cox, Guilford Tech/West Forsyth alum; pitcher Jack Vest East Tennessee State/West Forsyth alum; and Lewisville native Levi Strahm, a pitcher at Wake Forest.
The game begins at 6:30 p.m. with the Disco Turkeys taking on their Southern Collegiate Baseball League rivals, the Uwharrie Wampus Cats. The team’s first fireworks show at Couch Ballpark will follow and it will be longer than a typical post-game fireworks show to help celebrate the holiday.
In addition to regular concessions offerings, the event will feature food trucks on site, including Dippin’ Dots, Que Viva and Kona Ice. Also on offer will be the exclusive Disco Turkeys beer from Fiddlin’ Fish Brewing. Parking will be free for the game and fireworks until the 6:30 p.m. first pitch. Tickets for the game are $10. Children 3 and under are free and youth baseball and softball players wearing their team jersey also get in free.
The Disco Turkeys are 12-11 on the season but also an impressive 9-1 at home thus far.
“We’re excited to have another big event for the Fourth of July this year and are very excited to have this special July 4 fireworks show,” said Disco Turkeys team president Greg Sullivan. “It will be the first July 4 fireworks show at the stadium in many years and some will remember going to July 4 games there when it was Ernie Shore Field, Winston-Salem’s minor league stadium. I think it will be a great option for people looking for something fun to do with family and friends this year and a way to avoid downtown traffic but see a great show.”
The Disco Turkeys play from May through late July every summer and are one of the top college wood-bat teams in the region. The team is known for their colorful mascot Boogie and fans across the country have bought the team’s merchandise.
Tickets may be purchased at discoturkeys.com. To avoid ticket fees, fans may purchase at the LJVM box office or at the gate on gameday.
