Adults students, often balancing work, family and school, can find some college assistance thanks to three scholarships available from the Shallow Ford Foundation.

The Salem Glen College Assistance Program

Up to $2,500 for a student who graduated from high school in the class of 2023 or earlier and is pursuing a 2-year program of study at Forsyth Tech or Davidson-Davie Community College, leading to a degree or certification in any trade, technical, or vocational field. Eligible applicants must be residents of Forsyth or Davidson Counties and demonstrate financial need.

The scholarship was established by Salem Glen, a charitably-minded residential community with homes in both Forsyth and Davidson counties. The program provides financial support and pairs the recipient with a mentor from the Salem Glen community who can provide encouragement, resource guidance and opportunities for career exploration.

The Charles and Robin Paul Scholarship Award

Up to $2,000 for an adult student who graduated from high school in the class of 2023 or before and is a resident of Forsyth County working on completing an academic or vocational program. Preference is given to students planning to or currently attending Winston-Salem State University. Students who have taken time away from their continuing education, those who never started a post-high school program and those already working toward a degree and promising career may apply for this opportunity.

Robin and Charles Paul are active members of the Chris Paul Family Foundation; Robin also serves as vice chair on the board of the Shallow Ford Foundation. They are dedicated advocates for education, working closely with organizations trying to level the playing field for children. This scholarship was established in 2021 to support adult students working to further their education.

The Shallow Ford Foundation Community Scholarship
Up to $2,000 for an adult student who graduated with the class of 2023 or earlier planning to enroll in or currently enrolled in a program at a community college (full-time or part-time) to complete a degree or credential that will improve their current career or help them transition to a new career. Students from anywhere in the foundation’s service area (Clemmons, Lewisville, Yadkin County and Davidson County) may apply.

Applications may be submitted online at shallowfordfoundation.org before the deadline of Friday, Sept. 13, at 5 p.m.

Applications will be reviewed by a team consisting of community members and the Shallow Ford Foundation board of directors. Finalists will be invited for in-person interviews in early October. Awarded students may access their scholarship funds as early as the spring 2025 semester. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, technology needs, supplies or other direct course-related expenses. The funds are sent directly to the student’s account at their school and cannot be used for rent, gas, or other personal expenses.
