Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools was awarded the Fostering Diverse Schools two-year planning grant from the U.S. Department of Education. WS/FCS will use the grant to create a comprehensive plan that is aimed at improving socioeconomic diversity in each school’s enrollment while also slightly reducing driving time for families.  

The plan will be developed based on input from our students, staff, parents, guardians and caregivers. Therefore, voices are critical, and the school system is committed to engaging the community throughout the process. Voices from the community will be captured through surveys and in-person and/or virtual focus groups. These opportunities will allow the school system to provide valuable information, listen to feedback and answer any questions.  

The in-person events are being held in partnership with the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina. Jerry Long YMCA, located at 1150 South Peace Haven Road, Clemmons, hosted two sessions already with another slated for Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Next week, the sessions return to Jerry Long YMCA on Monday and Tuesday, with both sessions occurring from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
