WINSTON-SALEM — United Way of Forsyth County requests that Hurricane Helene disaster relief contributions be directed to a fund initiated by United Way of North Carolina. United Way of North Carolina initiated the UW Helps NC Fund, an effort designed to support both immediate and long-term recovery efforts in communities impacted by the recent severe weather.
“We were very fortunate in the Forsyth County area to escape the storm with relatively minimal damage to homes, roads, infrastructure and people. As was well documented over the weekend, our neighbors just a short distance away in the Asheville and Boone regions are suffering almost unimaginable losses,” United Way of Forsyth County President and CEO Antonia Monk Richburg said. “We are asking that those from Forsyth County who want to contribute do so by supporting the efforts of United Way of North Carolina.
“This is a time for all of us to come together to get the job done and help others who need us now more than ever before during our lifetimes. United Way has a longstanding tradition of being a trusted keeper of funds that will be directed to those people and agencies that have the most pressing needs.”
The Duke Energy Foundation is making a generous donation of $100,000 to the governor’s NC Disaster Relief Fund, a state fund which is also managed by United Way of North Carolina. This partnership with the governor’s office and Duke Energy Foundation has matched United Way of North Carolina’s fundraising efforts, doubling what has been raised to date, thanks to the collective giving power of the community.
These two funds combined will provide critical resources for relief efforts, addressing the extensive devastation caused by Hurricane Helene across multiple local communities. United Way of North Carolina also manages NC 211, a multilingual and confidential service that provides real time information and resources to individuals in crisis. NC 211, in combination with local United Way programs and partners, works collaboratively to ensure residents’ greatest needs are met, year-round, but especially during a disaster.
Contributions to the governor’s NC Disaster Relief Fund can be made at nc.gov/donate.
Contributions to the UW Helps NC Fund can be made easily online at unitedwaync.org. Donors have the option to designate their contributions to a specific United Way or allow United Way of North Carolina to allocate funds to the areas of greatest need.
