Everything came up roses this past week for both the boys and girls basketball teams at West Forsyth.

Both teams swept their three games this past week – the Central Piedmont 4-A opener against Glenn, a nonconference game against Western Guilford, and another conference games this past Friday, which was the home opener for West Forsyth, against Parkland.

The West Forsyth boys (4-0, 2-0) traveled to Kernersville last Tuesday and routed Glenn 69-25.

Jordan Tate led the Titans with 20 points, Cale Lloyd added 13 points, and Jacari Brim finished with 11 points, five assists, and four steals. Kamauri Manuel chipped in with 8 points, six assists and four steals.

West Forsyth led 30-8 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 52-14 at halftime.

“I thought we came out every game ready to play,” Marlon Brim said. “I thought the Glenn game, we set the tone early. Jordan Tate was phenomenal. Jacari was good and Kamauri was very good. All three of them were really good.”

Last Wednesday in the home opener against Western Guilford, which was a nonconference game, West Forsyth dominated and won 82-59, led by 23 points from Tate.

West Forsyth led 14-10 after the first quarter, but it extended the lead to 36-24 at halftime.

“I thought we came out with more energy,” Marlon Brim said. “It’s the first home game. Again, Tate set the tone for us. Cari and Kamauri did what they did, so I thought the “Three-Headed Monster,” which is what I call them, played very well.”

The Frank Spencer Holiday Classic is is scheduled for this week, and West Forsyth is the No. 1 seed. In the Atrium Wake Forest Health Bracket and were scheduled to have played No. 8 Northwest Guilford at 5:30 on Wednesday at Mount Tabor. However, before the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic West Forsyth had to go through exams this week, which are scheduled to end on Thursday.

“Our guys feel confident,” Marlon Brim said. “I think we’re ready. We finally got some games up under our belt, so to play three games in a week, I thought (Friday against Parkland) we came out in the second half with more energy I think the first half, kind of like not tired, but we wasn’t ourself.

“Second half, we were flying around, getting deflections. Things like that, so I thought it was better for us.”

In the Parkland game Friday night in Clemmons, Jacari Brim scored 33 points and added five assists and five rebounds to help West Forsyth win 73-35.

The Titans led 12-11 after the first quarter, but they dominated the second quarter to take a 38-19 lead at halftime. The Titans outscored the Mustangs 26-13 in the third quarter to held seal the win.

“Just like I told them (Friday night), playing three games in a week prepared us for the Frank Spencer because with the Frank Spencer we play on that Wednesday, we’re off that Thursday, we play against that Friday, Saturday,” Marlon Brim said. “So, it’s just getting that opportunity to play three games this week helped us a little with some tired legs, just getting our edge and our focus back. So, I think it can help us in the Frank Spencer.”

But West Forsyth will prepare this week for Wednesday’s first-round game against Northwest Guilford.

“I’ve seen (Northwest Guilford) a little bit,” Marlon Brim said. “Coach (Lee) Reavis will have them ready. They do great job of playing what he likes to run. So, we’ve just got to be ready and we’ve got to be prepared.”

If West defeats Northwest Guilford, the team will play the winner of Thursday’s first-round game between No. 5 Reagan and No. 5 Walkertown, in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at Mount Tabor.

“And playing in the 5:30 game will be different,” Marlon Brim said. “But it’s almost like practice. So, I think we’ll adjust. We’re ready for the challenge as the No. 1 seed, and I think we can get to the championship whether we win it or not. But I think we’ve the talent to be really good this year.”

Optimism is high for the Titans after four games.

“I think we’re more athletic than we were last year,” Marlon Brim said. “I think we can score the ball better than we did last year. And overall, I think what we had coming in was very good. And then. The Cale Lloyd kid adds another deep threat. Jamir (Wilkins), he’s up from JV. He gives us another big body. And then, everybody else kind of plays their role. So, I think we’re better than we were last year.”

Despite sweeping all three games this past week, Marlon Brim still sees room for improvement.

“I give it a B+ because we’ve got to do better at a couple things, and that comes with practice and working on a couple things,” Marlon Brim said. “But I thought, overall and our effort everything was good. So, I would say B+ to an A.

“But in order to be really good we’ve got to get better at a couple things that will make us even better.”

The West Forsyth girls routed Glenn 68-5 on Tuesday night led by 15 points from Isabel Gil.

In addition, Brooklynn King chipped in with 14 points and 18 rebounds, Laila Jones had 13 points and 15 rebounds, and Emma Staples had 12.

In the nonconference game Wednesday night against Western Guilford, King scored 21 points to help West Forsyth win 70-29.

Gil chipped in with 13 points, Staples had 12, and Jones scored 11.

The Titans led 17-14 after the first quarter, but they outscored the Hornets 19-2 in the second quarter and 23-6 in the third quarter.

In Friday’s home conference game, Staples had 20 points and Jones had 19 points and 13 rebounds to help lead West Forsyth as it rolled past Parkland 76-43.

The Titans led 24-11 after the first quarter and 41-16 at halftime.

King added 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Titans (5-2), and Brandie Davis added 14 points.

Jordan Fisher led the Mustangs with 20 points.

The West Forsyth girls are off this week, but they return on Dec. 26 at noon against East Davidson in a tournament.
