Calling all Lego enthusiasts.
The village of Clemmons will soon accept entries for its annual Lego building contest, and this year’s theme is “You have a pet what?”
Participants are encouraged to showcase their creativity by building original Lego creations of their favorite animals, real or fictional. Whether you’ve always dreamed of having a pet monkey or have a unique idea for an animal that doesn’t exist, you can bring these visions to life and enter them into this year’s competition. Entries will be accepted at the Clemmons Village Hall on Jan. 24, between 4 and 6 p.m., and Jan. 25, between 10 a.m. and noon.
This year marks the fourth iteration of the Village’s Lego competition. Clemmons Events Coordinator and Farmers Market Manager Lynette Fox shared that participation has grown steadily each year, expressing hopes for an even larger turnout in 2025.
“We’d love to see more entries than ever before,” Fox said, adding that she particularly hopes to see more teens and adults in the competition.
When asked what creature she would try to build if she were in the competition, Fox said. “I would try to come up with an animal that blended a couple animals together, like a liger.”
Fox also spoke about how impressed the village staff has been with past submissions in previous years of the competition.
“We love seeing all the creativity in the community,” she said.
One of her favorite submissions from a previous year was a Lego recreation of Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour.”
For anyone wishing to participate, there are some contest rules to be aware of. The competition is divided into five age categories to ensure fairness and to prevent direct competition between adults and children. The divisions are: ages 3–6, ages 7–8, ages 9–11, ages 12–14, and ages 15 and older. Adults of all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate in the final division.
Each participant is limited to submitting one entry, and all builds must be entirely original — no pre-designed Lego sets or kits are allowed. Judging will take place the week after the submission dates. Participants are reminded to pick up their creations by Feb. 3, as any unclaimed entries may be donated.
When submitting an entry, remember to include an index card with important information for the judges. On one side of the card, provide the name of your entry and a brief description of your creation. On the reverse side, include your name, your age, a parent’s name (if the participant is a minor), a phone number and an email address.
This Lego competition offers a fantastic opportunity for participants of all ages to unleash their creativity and share their talents with the community. Whether you’re young or old, and whether you’re a seasoned Lego builder or picking up the colorful blocks for the first time, this event promises fun and inspiration for everyone involved.
Even if you’ve never participated in a building competition, your pet-inspired masterpiece could become this year’s winner.
