Robert Fred Hoke

Mr. Robert Hoke, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, due to complications from a recent heart attack. He was born on Jan. 1, 1947, in Iredell County to the late Fred J. and Maudane Winters Hoke. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jane Alexander Hoke. He was a loving caregiver to his wife for nearly a decade before her death.

He is survived by his two children Jonathan Hoke (Terri) of Advance, and Jennifer Hoke Harrell (Mark) of Roswell, Georgia; and grandchildren Spencer, Ben and Laurin Hoke, and Jackson and Maggie Harrell. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed their activities.

Robert was a graduate of Appalachian State University after which he was drafted and served in the United States Army in Vietnam as an infantryman where he received a Purple Heart for wounds he received in combat. He qualified as a sharpshooter with the .45 caliber pistol and machine gun and as an expert with the rifle. In addition to his Purple Heart, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged.

After his service in the Army, Robert worked as a district credit manager for Noland Company for over 25 years. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, taking pictures and outdoor activities like hiking and playing golf. Robert also loved attending his grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.

The family would like to thank neighbors, friends and the coronary care unit staff at Forsyth Medical Center for their tireless efforts in caring for him.

Robert’s celebration of life service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, 2849 Middlebrook Drive in Clemmons. The family received visitors following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association at heart.org
