Bobbie Lee ‘Bob’/’Red’ Adams

On Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, Bobbie Lee “Bob”/“Red” Adams, beloved father of three children and widower, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children at age 88. Adams was born at home on Oct. 21, 1932, in Jonesville to Commodore Vanderbilt Adams and Pearl Van Hoy Adams, the eighth of their eight children. He graduated from high school in Jonesville in 1951 and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952. He served in the Air Force as a crew chief and flight engineer. His Air Force duty took him to Maxwell Field in Alabama and European Command (precursor to NATO) in Naples, Italy. After his active military service ended in 1957, he returned to his native North Carolina and became employed as a machinist for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He worked for RJR for over 30 years until his retirement in 1988.

On March 31, 1960, he married Sara Louise Gunderson. Together, they raised three children: eldest daughter Terri Lynn, and sons David Charles and Christopher Lee. His beloved wife Sara passed away on March 26, 1992. He mourned her passing until his own. Adams was always engaged in working with his hands. He loved to take care of his Lewisville home and also perfected his skills at woodworking, carving, leatherwork and gardening. He was a civic-minded Lewisville resident who served from 1964-1977 as a firefighter in the Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a member for many years at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Lewisville, where he held many positions of leadership and service on the church board and choir. He was active in the Lewisville Civic Club and was Scoutmaster for Troop 753 of Shiloh Lutheran Church. Adams was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents and seven siblings. He is survived by his children Terri Doster (Eric) of Southport, David Adams (Ruth Anne) of Clemmons, and Chris of Lewisville. He is survived by five grandchildren: David R. Doster (Shelby Veri) of Greensboro, Sara Doster (fiancee Jonathan Braz) also of Greensboro, Robert E. “Zeke” Adams, Sara Anne “Annie” Adams and Mary Jo Adams, all of Clemmons. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Karen Hayward of Austin, Texas, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A graveside burial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, at Shiloh Lutheran Church on Lewisville-Vienna Road in Lewisville. David Roberson Hemrick

David Roberson Hemrick, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, at his home. He was born May 30, 1943, in Surry County to the late Raymond and Edna Hemrick of Mt. Airy. He was born and raised in Mt. Airy then moved to Clemmons more than 47 years ago and that is where he established his roots. Hemrick retired from Stroh’s Brewery with 30 years of service. He was a lifeguard for many years and oversaw the pool for his townhome community. He was a competitive ping pong, bowler and pool player, and has won many trophies from all three. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan, enjoyed NASCAR racing, and loved visiting with all his friends at Mossy’s. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by three brothers, Ray, Gary and Pete Hemrick. He is survived by two sons, Mark Hemrick (Karrie) of Pfafftown and Chris Hemrick (Lara) of Denver N.C.; daughter, Brooke Parrish of Clemmons; five grandchildren, Jesse, Jon, Austin, Tess and Tate; nieces, Lee and Edie. The family will hold a graveside service at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons at 1 p.m. Friday Dec. 18, 2020, with Rev. Doug Klein officiating. Mary Crouch McLean

Mrs. Mary Crouch McLean, 78, of Lewisville, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020. She was born Dec. 25, 1941, in Forsyth County to the late Charles L. and Margaret H. Russell Crouch. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School to the four-year-old class.  She also was a very successful manager with Tupperware and received the Prestigious American Business Women’s Association Award of the year.  McLean worked at Belk in the bridal department and directed many weddings. She then went into the insurance business and was a secretary for a construction company. She loved knitting, sewing and crafts, but most importantly she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

McLean was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Carlton McLean. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Stephen Carlton McLean (Pam) of Wilmington; daughter, Beth M. Brown (Allen) of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Whitney and Michael Brown, and Jonathan and Kristin McLean; also, her loving dog, Susie.

A graveside service was conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at Kernersville Moravian Church Graveyard with Pastor Christy Clore officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rowan County.
