Wayne Gray Cody

Heaven has many angels but today it’s even brighter because God brought home Wayne Gray Cody, 83, of Advance. Cody died on May 18, 2021, after an extended illness. He was born in Forsyth County on Oct. 3, 1937. Cody graduated from Gray High School in 1955. He was married to Peggy Joyce Cody for more than 64 years. Cody retired from RJ Reynolds tobacco company in the research and development department. He pledged his life to serving God and his family. He was a deacon at multiple churches throughout his life including Wallburg Baptist Church, Swansboro Baptist Church and Green Meadows Baptist Church in Mocksville. He was an avid sports fan, fisherman and loved ballgames. He was preceded in death by his father Clarence B. Cody, Kathleen Long Cody, three brothers, and a special feline companion, Sophie. He was survived by his beloved wife Peggy Joyce Cody; daughter, Deborah Cody Marsh (Charles); granddaughter Joy Moverley (Mike), and great-granddaughter Mary Katherine; sister, Marie Adams (James); niece Beverley Ellison and nephew Denis Adams; and many cousins. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on May 20, 2021, at Green Meadows Baptist Church by Pastors Josh Greene and James Buchanan. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends after the burial in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Green Meadows building fund at 1646 Highway 801 North Mocksville NC 27028. Marion ‘Anne’ Lowdermilk McBride

Mrs. Marion “Anne” Lowdermilk McBride, 67, of Lewisville, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was born Sept. 10, 1953, in Rutherford County. She is proceeded in death by her parents Frank Howard Lowdermilk Sr. and Doris Azaleen Kirby Lowdermilk and brother, Frank H. Lowdermilk Jr. She is survived by her husband, Edward “Eddie” McBride Jr.; son, William Frank McBride (Ashley); grandsons, Alex and Thatcher; sister, Jayne Lowdermilk Spaugh (David); nephew Jacob Spaugh (Brooke) and nieces Emily Blodinger (Jake) and Kalli Hicks (Chase). She retired from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after working more than 28 years in the emergency room, ICU and outpatient surgery departments. She received several honors during her career such as, the “Excellence in Nursing” award in 1994; created the nursing motto for Baptist Hospital — “Patient Satisfaction through Nursing Action”; and she was also one of the key contributors to designing the current Baptist Hospital emergency room. After retirement, she filled her time with her beloved grandsons, knitting and various craftwork, and of course “doodling.” She was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church where she played the flute in the orchestra. Dorothy J. Myers

Mrs. Dorothy J. Myers, 93, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021. She was born on June 19, 1927, in Forsyth County to Pleasant Jones and Lily Mae Jones. Myers loved animals, gardening, working with flowers, and she enjoyed fishing at the coast. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Rufus Myers Jr. and brothers, Frank Jones and Sidney Jones. Surviving are her son, James “Randy” Randall Myers (Lisa). A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the mausoleum chapel. Michael ‘Mike’ Eugene O’Brien

Michael “Mike” Eugene O’Brien, 73, of Clemmons, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 22, 2021, in Winston-Salem surrounded by his family. O’Brien was born in Forsyth County on Sept. 28, 1947, to Philip and Mildred O’Brien. He was a former Winston-Salem police officer and retired from the Winston-Salem Fire Department. O’Brien loved playing golf and watching sports. He always looked forward to going on fishing trips with his Cape 10 crew. He was also a part of the chain crew for the Wake Forest football team for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. O’Brien leaves behind his children, David O’Brien (Angie) of Advance, and Katie Carlton (Zack) of Advance; grandchildren, Rylie and Colton O’Brien and Braeden and Chandler Carlton, all of Advance. O’Brien is also survived by one sister, Vickie Brophy (Jim) of Oak Island; and niece, Sarah Blevins (Ben) of Winston-Salem. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Forsyth Memorial Park at the gazebo, with Pastor Truett Williams officiating. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 134 S. Peace Haven Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104. William ‘Bill’ Szeremeta

William “Bill” Szeremeta, 53, has joined our creator peacefully on May 10, 2021. He was born on June 30, 1967, in Smithtown, New York to Walter and Carol Szeremeta.

Szeremeta grew up in Ohio and graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in mechanical engineering. He loved his country so much and was a member of the Air National Guard 180 FW Division in Toledo, Ohio, for 22 years and he served overseas in Turkey and Qatar.

Szeremeta was married to the love of his life Lani for 21 years. Above all, he was a devoted family man to his wife and three children Bradley, Maci, and Anais.

Szeremeta was a hardworking employee with 33 years in the engineering and automotive industries. He was a true friend and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and tinkering with his cars. Szeremeta was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons, where he loved maintaining the beautiful flower beds on its grounds, and supporting the youth group where both of his daughters are members.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Carol. He is survived by his wife Lani; children, Bradley, Maci, and Anais; father, Walter Szeremeta; and brothers, James and Brian Szeremeta.

Szeremeta was a great man. He lived a beautiful life and he will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on July 17, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons.
