Crelly Leon Broom Jr.

Mr. Crelly Leon Broom Jr., 78, of Clemmons passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021. He was born March 31, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Crelly Leon Broom Sr. and Mozelle Peters Broom. Broom retired from Tyco Electronics in 2005. Broom was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He was especially proud to have served in three branches of the military which included Air Force, Army Special Forces and Navy Seabees. He retired in 1989 after 29 years of service. Along with his parents, he is preceded by a sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Kay Byerly Broom. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Novant FMC, Neuro Team. Joseph Alexander ‘Alec’ Covington

Mr. Joseph Alexander “Alec” Covington, 85, of Clemmons, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Sept. 1, 1935, in Forsyth County. Covington served in the U.S. National Guard and was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church. He retired from A.L. Williams Financial Services as senior vice president. Covington was a beloved husband and father who had a vibrant, charismatic personality and will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha “Jackie” Heath Covington. Surviving are daughters, Susan Covington Carter and Sandra Covington Cairncross (Scott); and grandchildren, Jeremy Cairncross and Melissa MacDougall. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Pastor Ron Schuyler officiating. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the Covington family.

Stephen Ernest Edwards

Mr. Stephen Ernest Edwards, 80, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021. Edwards was born in Wilkes County on July 20, 1940, to the late Ernest Taft Edwards and Ruth Davis Edwards. He was of the Baptist faith. Edwards was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from RJ Reynolds with 33 years of loyal service. Most importantly, he was the most loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janet Edwards; daughter, Beverly Qualters (Bill) of Winston-Salem; son, Neil Edwards (Melissa) of Kernersville; grandchildren, Olivia and Kylie Qualters and Madalyn Edwards; and brother, Charles Edwards (Judy) of Winston-Salem. A graveside service was conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Ramon Smith and Rev. Charles Edwards officiating. The VFW Memorial Honor Guard performed military honors. The family received friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday June 16, 2021, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. Ruth Creson Granger

Ruth Creson Granger, 89, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021. She was born on Aug. 17, 1931, in Forsyth County to J. Oscar Creson and Emma Bennett Creson. Granger enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s ballgames. She liked planting flowers, gardening and was a wonderful cook. Granger loved being with her family, they were her life. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are children, Gary Granger (Melinda) and Donna Whetstone (Paul); grandchildren, Cory Granger, Nicole Granger, Miranda Whetstone and Landon Whetstone; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special nephew, J.D. Morgan. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Granger’s memory to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292. Deborah Lynne Powell Ivester

Mrs. Deborah Lynne Powell Ivester, 61, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on June 16, 2021. Ivester was born on July 7, 1959, to Betty Adams Powell and David Lorick Powell Sr. in Spartanburg, S.C.  She graduated from West Forsyth High School in 1977. Ivester was preceded in death by her father and mother and brother, David L. Powell Jr. She is survived by her loving husband, David L. Ivester; children, Lynne Ivester, Jacob Mise; stepchildren, Josh Ivester (Amy), Taylor Ivester (Micele), Katie Colescott (Ray); eight grandchildren; brothers, Doug Powell and Don Powell; sister, Doris Powell; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends gathered at the Ivester home for a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2021. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com .

Allyson Hope Atwood Wooten

Allyson Hope Atwood Wooten, 38 of Lewisville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 13, 2021, after a short and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born March 8, 1983, in Yadkinville to Craig Darron Atwood and Celia Colvard Powers. When she was born, her parents selected a place close to their hearts in which to name her after, the family church, “Hope Moravian Church.” Her final days were spent surrounded by her family.  Wooten is survived by her husband, Alan Wooten; children, Jacob and Zoe Wooten; sisters, Emily Atwood, Sarah Atwood and Madeleine Atwood; nephew, Creed Atwood; stepmother, Julie Atwood; stepfather, David Powers; stepsisters, Charity Ahlquist (Adam), Bobbie Mace-Maldonado (Pablo), Miranda Cumings (Jason) and Kathryn Powers; and Danny Wooten, Billie Benbow, and Aaron Peters.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Inez Colvard, and Albert and Elizabeth (Lib) Atwood.

Wooten loved anthropology and history. She obtained a bachelor of arts degree at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2005, after studying abroad at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and received a master of art degree in history at UNC-Greensboro in 2009. She was a world traveler, seeing sites in England, Germany, Egypt, Israel and surrounding countries. Wooten also loved the fun and joy of Disney World, traveling there multiple times with family and friends.

Wooten was devoted to her family, providing life experiences and precious moments that will forever be treasured.

A celebration of life was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Hope Moravian Church. Burial followed in the church graveyard. The family received friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Mammography Program through the National Breast Cancer Foundation, INC. This program provides grants for breast screening and diagnostic services vital to early detection for those who may not otherwise have means.  Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel is serving the Wooten family.
