The Lewisville Civic Club voted unanimously last Thursday to assume leadership in pursuing the path to incorporation. Charles Hauser, president of the club, called on the 30 members present to state their intentions as to the future of Lewisville. David Long, chief planner with the N.C. Department of Economic and Community Development, was present at the meeting. Long told the group their survey of needs done in the community was an impressive effort, and the results provided a clear mandate from the community.

Lori Goins, 20, of Clemmons and a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill, will be competing this week in the Miss North Carolina pageant in Raleigh. She is the current Miss Durham-Orange County. Goins was the 1988 Miss Forsyth County, following her graduation from West Forsyth High School. Her parents are Tony and Jane Goins of Clemmons.

The North Carolina State University’s dean’s list for spring semester has been announced. A number of local residents had perfect “A” records: From Clemmons: Patrick W. Canupp, Felicia Adair Cope, Christopher Freeman, James Anthony Joy II, Leslie Kausch; and from Lewisville: Christina Jo Campbell and Maria Leigh Sowers.

Razan Fayez of Clemmons earned the Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting, on May 28 at Clemmons United Methodist Church. As a member of Senior Girl Scout Troop 437, Fayez began working toward the Gold Award in September 1987. She is the daughter of Dr. Jamil and Hanan Fayez, of Clemmons.

West Forsyth is going to have one confident basketball team when the 1990-1991 season rolls around, that is, if the High Point team camp means anything. West Forsyth, known in the camp’s league as simply “Team Number 3,” dominated the top division going 12-2 in the regular season and then winning the tournament in three straight games. “Our only two losses were in overtime,” said coach Denny Key. “We really played well.”

The Clemmons West swim team beat Willow Run 517-394 last week to claim its second win in a row. The Aqua Demons won 31 of 58 individual events and dominated the relays by winning 15 of 20 races. For Clemmons West, Scott Danielson led the individual event winners with four victories. Winners of three events were Brad Willard, Gregg Nicks, Jessica Monroe and David Pubantz.

Lester and Alice Shuler of Winston-Salem celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 24, with a reception at Clemmons United Methodist Church. The reception was hosted by their children and their spouses: Raymond and Alice Hege of Mechanicsville, Virginia; Kent and Linda Davis, Olon and Wrenn Shuler, Bennett and Beverly Davis, all of Clemmons.  

The 15-acre site on Peace Haven Road is now officially the home of the new West Forsyth Family YMCA. The board of managers approved going ahead with the purchase of the property which they had had under option since last August.
