Larry Wayne Evans

Larry Wayne Evans, 72 of Hamlet passed away on Aug. 22, 2021, at Hospice Haven of Richmond County. Evans was born on Oct. 12, 1948, in Yadkin County, the son of Cecil Taylor Evans and Lois Caudle Evans. He was a Vietnam veteran and was an advocate for all veterans. He was a member of VFW Post 4203 for 34 years, Post 4203 commander for two years, quartermaster for 15 years, District 9 adjutant and was in charge of the VFW Post 4203 Veterans Memorial Park.

He loved his fur babies, Dallas, Foxy, Bella and Rinny. He loved music, flowers, playing cards, singing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Cecelia Eileen Evans; daughters, Kellie Evans (Rodney Odom), Tonya Cook, Chasity Harrington (Dorien); brother, Richard Evans, Bobby Atkins (Pam); 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Evans.

Funeral service with military honors was held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, at VFW Post 4203.

Interment followed in Richmond Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to VFW District 9; Stand Up to Cancer and the Humane Society.

Joyce Anderson Goodman

Mrs. Joyce Anderson Goodman, 94, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, at her home. She was born July 10, 1927, in Davie County to the late William Frank Anderson and Jessie Walker Anderson. Goodman was a member of Linville Forest Church of Christ for over 49 years. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 64 years, George White “GW” Goodman and one foster son, Allen. Surviving are her children, Dennis Goodman (Jodi) of Springfield, Georgia, and Jean Roney (Jim) of Clemmons; and foster sons, Jim and John. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Denny Goodman (Sharon) and Sonya Wester (William) and their mother, Carol Warner; Jim Roney Jr.; Joy Roney and Tara Phillips; and four great-granddaughters Casey, Kaley, Amber and Emily. A graveside service was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2021, at Jericho Church of Christ, 124 Davie Academy Road in Mocksville. The family received friends following the service. Rex Dale Jennings

Mr. Rex Dale Jennings, 86, of Lewisville, passed away Aug. 25, 2021, at Trinity Elms in Clemmons surrounded by family. He was born June 14, 1935, in Lewisville to the late Gwyn M. and Melba S. Jennings. Jennings was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and never met a stranger. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Martha B. Jennings. He was retired from Sears & Roebuck Company, where he worked for 35 years. Upon retirement, Jennings turned a hobby into a business, growing and selling Christmas trees at Rex’s Christmas Trees in Lewisville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Foy H. Jennings, on Nov. 24, 1999. Jennings is survived by sons, Mark D. (Kelia) Jennings, of Lewisville, and Neal A. Jennings (Coral Shaw), of East Bend; sister-in-law, Carrie M. Jennings; grandchildren, Alex Jennings and Taylor Jennings; step-grandchildren, Michael Taylor, Meagan Taylor, and Joshua White (Lauren); and step-great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Taylor and Cayden Taylor. A graveside service was conducted at Forsyth Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30, with Clarence Huie officiating. Andreas Theodore Kazakos

Andreas Theodore Kazakos passed away on Aug. 24, 2021, at the age of 73 after several years with persistent health concerns, notably with his lungs. Kazakos was the beloved husband of the late Vasiliki Kazakos of Saranti, Greece, the love of his life, with whom he was united on July 3, 1977, and with whom he will return to in spirit and soul. He is survived by his nurturing and loving wife, Elyziel Servano; his four, loving children and their spouses, Elizabeth and Gus Siokis, Theodore and Frances Kazakos, John and Nia Kazakos, and Alexander Kazakos; and his 12 doting grandchildren; sister, Fotini Ziogas; sister, Maria Ballas (Gregory); brother, George Kazakos (Eleni); brother, Anastasios Kazakos (Stavroula), and his other brother, Gus Kazakos (Evangelia). Kazakos was born in the midst of a civil war on July 10, 1948. He, his courageous parents, and his six spirited brothers and sisters fled and finally settled in Marathea, Evrytania, years later where his father presided as the Greek Orthodox priest in the village. Easily one of their family’s favorite pastimes as young children growing up was listening to their father tell stories about his childhood growing up in a small village in the central region of Greece. Growing up, he and his family endured a tumultuous time in modern Greek history, and this would lay the foundation for his desire of a better life in America. And that’s exactly what he did: he worked as hard as any man has ever worked to provide for his family and to establish perennial roots in a foreign land. While the union of Andreas and his wife Vasiliki was arranged in the traditional sense, they fell truly, fiercely and deeply in love, and of that love their four children were born. Together and by example, they taught their children how to love unconditionally and be devoted husbands, wives, mothers, fathers and children. His family all take great solace in knowing that their parents are together again and watching over them. Kazakos was a brilliant, inspired and tireless man who created a beautiful life for his wife, children and grandchildren and left them a remarkable legacy. Aside from being a devoted husband and father and an astute and successful businessman, Kazakos ardently loved his farm, farm animals and garden, where he spent a lot of his time after he retired. Everything he touched and cared for flourished. He had the gentlest and humblest of souls as he did so much good for the environment, for people and for the greater community. “Καλός άνθρωπος ποιός είναι (who truly is and can be a good person)?” his mother once told him, and he often would tell his children. He was the best person in an insurmountable way. May his memory forever be eternal. Καλο παραδεισο, μπαμπά! A private funeral service will be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Beatrice ‘Bea’ Deal Price

Beatrice “Bea” Deal Price, 84, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, at her home. Price was born on Dec. 9, 1936, in Rowan County to the late Elmer Harvey Deal and Estelle Adams Deal. She was a loving wife and mother, who taught her children to pray and the love of the Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Price was a patient and kind person who always looked for the good in others. In addition to her parents, Price was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Edward Price; and sisters, Annie Lee Elledge and Mary Cavin. Surviving family includes children, Kenneth E. Price Jr. (June) of San Diego, California, Stephen A. Price (Linda) of Clemmons, and Sandra P. Duncan of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Nicole King, Michelle Garrett and Amy Price; and eight great-grandchildren. A private family graveside service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. David Stetler officiating. Brent ‘Smitty’ Lacy Smith

After a difficult and courageous battle with depression and anxiety, Brent “Smitty” Lacy Smith passed away on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021. In his younger years Smith played baseball at South Little League and played football for the Tiny Greyhounds. He graduated from Parkland High School in the class of 1982, and he was an active member of Pinedale Christian Church. Smith was a firefighter with the Winston-Salem Fire Department for five years. He was a licensed contractor and an active member of the Home Builders Association. Smith was very talented and particular with the many homes that he built over the years. He enjoyed playing golf and watching NASCAR. He was a loving and helpful son, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his parents, Fred and Doris Smith; loving sister, Amy Ketchie; brother, Barry Smith (Lori); nieces, Katelyn Kelley (Jake) and Bailey Smith; nephew, Nathan Baity; great-nieces and nephew, Skylar, Emmy and Grayson Kelley; and the friends that he made over the years. The family will hold a private graveside service at Parklawn Memorial Park with Jerry Mathis officiating. Mabel Wiles Billings (Triplette)

Mrs. Mabel Wiles Billings (Triplette), 101, of Clemmons, passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021. She was born in 1920 in Wilkes County to Wilbur Wiles and Janie Privette Wiles. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Waldo Billings and Bill Triplette and two children, Wanda Weavil and Tony Billings. Surviving are daughter, Virginia Dare Billings Bullard Burchette (James); grandchildren, Jacquelyn Bullard Xenakis, Sherry Bullard Leonard, Shannon Weavil, Jennifer Weavil, Tonia Atkins Tolbert; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She worked at Western Electric for 32 years and loved gardening, canning, cooking and sewing. She loved spending time with all her family members. She drove her car until she was 97 years old and will be remembered by her humor, great cooking and being very giving to her children and grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at Forsyth Memorial Park.
