The Central Piedmont 4-A released its all-conference teams last week and West Forsyth was well represented, especially the boys swimming team, which captured their third straight conference championship, and the wrestling team, which finished the regular season unbeaten with a 20-0 (7-0 CPC) record.

Logan McDonald was the male swimmer of the year and Sandy Thomerson was the men’s coach of the year.

McDonald won conference championships in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke and also was a part of two winning relay teams, the 200-medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Alex Valliere (50 free, 100 free, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay) and Jonah Greene (100 free, 200 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay) also won four events at the conference meet and were recognized as all-conference. Kyle Creep (second in the 200 freestyle, 400 free relay, 500 free) was recognized in three events, as was Ethan Frondoza (second in the 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay). Leighton Jones (200 medley relay, 400 free relay) and Chris Miller (200 free relay) also swam legs on winning relay teams to earn all-conference distinctions.

On the girls swimming team, Katherine Perdue was recognized as all-conference for her win in the 100 backstroke and Audrey Frondoza was recognized for her second-place finish in the 100 butterfly. The girls team placed third in the conference meet with 284 points.

The wrestling team placed 10 members on the all-conference team and Coach Jason Hooker was recognized as the coach of the year.

Aidan Meagher and David Eldridge, the two members from the wrestling team to qualify and place at the NCHSAA 4-A state tournament, were selected to the all-conference team.

They were joined by Emmanuel Jarquin, Cayden Glass, Damian Cisneros, Parker Broadus, Landon Hairston, Denizhan Cilic, Ziggy Malave and Lamont Monroe.

Abby Hunter was the lone member from the girls basketball team to be recognized. The junior, who is also on the softball team, helped the Titans to a fifth-place finish in the league this season and seven wins, including six in conference play.

Tennis team off to perfect start

The boys tennis team beat Davie County 5-4 last week to improve to a perfect 4-0 record in CPC play. The team has conference matches this week against Reynolds on Monday at home and will travel to East Forsyth on Wednesday.

Softball team suffers first loss

After winning their first three games of the season, the West Forsyth softball team suffered their first loss last Thursday against Forbush, 8-1.
The Titans have two home games scheduled this week against Glenn on Tuesday and against East Davidson on Wednesday.
The junior varsity team remains unbeaten at 3-0 heading into this week’s game against West Stokes on Thursday.

Baseball team remains hot

The West Forsyth baseball team continued its hot play by winning both their games against CPC rival Mount Tabor last week to remain unbeaten.
The Titans won a squeaker last Tuesday, holding on for a 5-3 win. Three days later, the bats came alive again to back another strong pitching performance in a 19-0 win against the Spartans that improved their record to 5-0 heading into games this week against Parkland and Oak Grove.
The Titans’ pitchers were impressive in the first game against Mount Tabor, with Harrison Lewis, William Price and Carson Taylor combining to throw 15 strikeouts. In Friday’s game. Reid Withers, Cam Wall and Braeden Stewart combined to surrender just one hit while striking out eight in delivering the shutout win.

The junior varsity team also stayed unbeaten at 5-0 with wins against West Stokes (10-0) and Southwest Guilford (8-1).

Girls lacrosse still unbeaten heading into the week

The girls lacrosse team beat Glenn 15-2 last week in their only game to improve to 4-0. The Titans have games this week against West Stokes on Monday, Davie on Tuesday and Hickory on Friday.

Boys lacrosse team blanks Glenn in win last week

The boys lacrosse team won one of their three games last week, blanking Glenn 14-0 last Tuesday. The Titans fell to Bishop McGuinness 10-6 last Monday and lost to Reagan 16-10 last Friday and carry a 2-4 record coming into this week with games against West Stokes on Monday night, Davie on Tuesday and Hickory on Friday.

Girls soccer notches first win

The girls soccer team blanked Forbush 7-0 last week to pick up its first official win of the season, improving to 1-2-1 heading into games this week. The Titans have nonconference rematches this week against Page on Tuesday night and Northern Guilford on Thursday. Both games are at home.

Page downed West 3-0 in the second round of the Triad Cup during the opening week of the season. The Titans tied Northern Guilford 4-4 in the first game of the season, but advanced to the next round of the Triad Cup after beating the Nighthawks in penalty kicks.

Conference play will begin next week with games at home against Mount Tabor on March 21 and at Parkland on March 23.
