Girls lacrosse still perfect

The girls lacrosse team ran its winning streak to 12 straight after posting victories against Reagan (17-6) and Lake Norman (15-3) last week.

The Titans opened the week with a perfect 12-0 record (7-0 in conference play).

West has three games on the schedule this week: at home against Reagan on Tuesday, at West Stokes on Wednesday, and at home against Davie on Friday before heading into spring break next week, when there are no games scheduled.

Tyson Adams wins long jump in Scott Brent Invitational

Tyson Adams continued his dominant run since indoor track season by adding another title to his expanding collection.

Adams, who won the NCHSAA 4-A indoor state long jump championship in February, out-jumped the field again last weekend at Mount Tabor to win at the Scott Brent Invitational, also knows as the city-county championship.

Adams jumped 23 feet, 6.5 inches to win by more than two feet.

Baseball team suffers first setback

The Titans baseball team was perfect on its season until squaring off with Reagan last Wednesday, the second game against the Raiders in two days.

After disposing of Reagan 4-1 last Tuesday at home, the Titans traveled to Pfafftown the next day and fell 7-2.

West entered the week 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the CPC. The Titans have matchups against Davie this week scheduled for Tuesday and Friday and are playing at a tournament next week during spring break in Myrtle Beach.

Softball team wins three of four last week

After opening last week with a 9-1 loss against East Forsyth on Tuesday, the Titans won their last three games of the week to improve to 10-4, including picking up two wins last Saturday.

West rebounded from the CPC loss against East with a 21-4 win against Mount Tabor, then went on to beat Elkin (7-0) and Surry Central (7-2) last Saturday.

Madisen Barringer was 6 for 8 with a double and her first career home run during last week’s games. Cate Etchason threw a two-hitter and a three-hitter with no walks in two of the wins. Freshman Sydney Horton was 5 for 8 with a home run, and senior Emily Metter also had a solid week, going 4 for 8 with a single, double, triple and home run during the stretch.

West will take on Parkland, Starmount and Glenn this week before heading into spring break next week.

Girls soccer team runs win streak to four straight

West won two more conference games last week, blanking Glenn 9-0 last Monday and edging Reagan 3-2 in overtime last Wednesday to improve to 5-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the CPC.

The win against Glenn was the fourth straight for the Titans, who faced Davie on Monday night, Reynolds on Wednesday and Lake Norman on Thursday.

There are no games scheduled for West next week during spring break.

Titans take third in recent CPC golf match

The West Forsyth boys golf team finished in fourth place during Monday’s Central Piedmont 4-A Conference match.

The Titans posted a team score of 155, only eight strokes back of Reynolds in the closest conference match of the season.

Mashon Beshears had the top individual score with a 37. David Howard was close behind with a 38. Logan Garrison shot 39 and Daniel Stamey had matching 40s, Zach Liu shot 41, Jack McCarthy carded a 42.

Seven Titans sign to play in college

Seven student-athletes from West will continue their sports careers in college after signing their letters-of-intent during a ceremony on Tuesday in the school auditorium.

• Andrew Betson (football) will be attending Hampden-Sydney.

• Jacob Wolfe (football) will be attending Guilford.

• Bryson Chandler (baseball) and Reid Withers (baseball) will be attending Catawba Valley Community College.

• Leighton Jones (swimming) will be attending Mars Hill College.

• Jack McCarthy (golf) will be attending Fayettevile State.

• Cameron Roth (tennis) will be attending Methodist.
