David Hayes Caffey

On April 25, 2022, a wonderful husband, father, pop-pop and friend decided to upgrade his home to the mansion Jesus promised him. David Hayes Caffey was born Sept. 14, 1950, to John W. and Dorothy Hayes Caffey. He grew up in Winston-Salem and graduated from Reynolds High School. He attended Wingate college for two years and then completed his undergraduate degree at UNC Chapel Hill. He was ecstatic when the first draft number drawn that year was 9/14. This bit of luck facilitated him to enlist in the Army where he spent his time in Germany enjoying fried pizza and beer, playing volleyball and beginning baseball teams for the children in that area. After getting discharged from the service, he completed his juris doctor at UNC Chapel Hill. He spent 40 years in the practice of real estate law and helping his friends with traffic tickets. Caffey leaves to mourn this tremendous loss his wife Karen; his three much-loved children, spouses and a grandson. He will always be daddy to Lindsay Locklear (Ryan), pop-pop to Jaxson, daughter, Kymberly Caffey, son, Matthew Caffey (Ashley); he leaves also to cherish his memories his sister Deborah, nephews, Ryan, Alex and his Georgia nephew, Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Johnny. Caffey lost his earthly battle with the devastating disease of progressive supranuclear palsy. Never did he ever say, “why me?” He met each challenge with the same sweet attitude.  Caffey was always grateful for anything anyone did for him and enjoyed his life to the best he could at that moment. He spent his earlier years being a diehard Tar Heel fan and loved the Yankees. He would play any sport that had a ball. David treasured his trips to Las Vegas with friends. His childhood friends and all his new friends were very special to him, and he cherished those friendships. A funeral service was at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Lewisville. Memorials may be made to the Lewisville Fire Department who came to pick him up many times when he would fall due to the effects of his disease or to the Store House for Jesus in Mocksville for their support.

Larry Franklin Canada

Mr. Larry Franklin Canada, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at his home. He was born in Forsyth County on July 2, 1937, to the late Owen Franklin and Lillie Belle Mayberry Canada. Canada retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with more than 25 years of service and then worked for Aladdin Travel Company. He was a member of Lewisville Baptist Church but had been attending Calvary Baptist Church.  He loved to travel, flower gardening and loved his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Preceding him in death was his parents and a brother, Lenny Canada.  Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Betty McCoy Canada; daughter, Paula McDonald (Benny) of Cartersville, Georgia; son, Rodney Canada (Edy) of Lewisville; grandchildren, Emilee Thomas (Todd), Jessica Daniels (Jamison), and Preston Canada and fiancé, Farra; also surviving are great-grandchildren, Gibbs and Elodie Thomas. A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. prior to the service. Earsley Nifong Fulton

Mrs. Earsley Nifong Fulton, 101, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Clemmons Village II. She was born in Forsyth County on May 14, 1920, to the late Permaniuf and Lessie Miller Nifong. Fulton graduated from Clemmons School and attended Draughon’s Business College. She was the oldest living member of Clemmons Moravian Church. Fulton was a homemaker, wonderful cook and an accomplished seamstress. Preceding her in death was her husband of 52 years, Roy S. Fulton whom she married on Jan. 18, 1942, in York, S.C.; brothers, Miller, Wilburn and Pete Nifong and sisters, Frankye Pierce and Treva Hunter. Surviving is a daughter, Gaye Poindexter (Tony); grandson, Colt Poindexter; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew Poindexter; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Clemmons Moravian Church Graveyard with Rev. Christopher C. Thore officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clemmons Moravian Church, PO Box 730 Clemmons, NC 27012 or to a charity of choice. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Clemmons Village II and to Mtn. Valley Hospice.

Thomas ‘Tom’ Franklin Jones

Thomas “Tom” Franklin Jones, 81, of Lewisville, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Trinity Elms in Clemmons. He was born on May 27, 1940, in Forsyth County to the late Henry Monroe Jones Sr. and Mamie Elizabeth Phelps Jones. He was married to Martha Biesecker Jones (deceased). He is survived by sisters, Anna J. Hooker (Clyde, deceased), Dorothy J. Faircloth (Jake, deceased), and Daisy J. Long (K.W., deceased); brothers, Henry Monroe Jones, Jr. (Judy) and Michael E. Jones (Toni) who dutifully assisted his brother during his illness; sisters-in-law, Doris B. Stimpson (Duran), Patsy B. Grubb (Wayne), and Margaret Biesecker; brother-in-law, Charles Biesecker (Amelia); also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Jeff Jones, who was very helpful during his illness. He retired as department supervisor in processing from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after many years of service. He was a member of Lewisville Baptist Church. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Trinity Elms for their excellent care during his stay. There will be a private graveside service for the family. Daniel ‘Wayne’ Richardson Sr.

Mr. Daniel “Wayne” Richardson Sr., 87, of Lewisville passed away Friday, April 29, 2022, at SECU Yadkinville Hospice Home. Richardson was born in Ashe County to the late Everett Richardson and Stella Taylor Richardson on Nov. 8, 1934. He served his country in the U.S. Army, then went to work for Reynolds Tobacco Company and retired with them after 31 years of service. Richardson loved his Lord and was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church, he also served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Richardson was a big believer in missions and loved talking to people about Jesus. He also had a great love for his family. He loved to repair bicycles and give them away to children that wanted them. Along with his parents, Richardson is preceded in death by his first wife Sylvia; brothers, J.L. Richardson, Paul and Herman Richardson; sister, Deetta Swain. He is survived by his wife, Zora Mae Richardson; children, Danny Richardson, Nathan Richardson (Jane) and Dana Lanier (Mark); grandchildren, Jason (Heather), Mandy (David), Michael (Amanda), Matthew (Chelsea), Christopher and Gina; great-grandchildren, Daisy, Hailey, Austin, Bentley, Skylar, Jasper, Avery, Charlie, Ella, Lexi, and Jesse; brother, Charles Richardson (Betty); sisters, Jean Pettus and Carolyn Messer; a very special daughter-in-law, LuAnn Richardson. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Pastor Josh Boles officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Sarah Mock Spaugh

Mrs. Sarah Mock Spaugh, 87, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 at her home. She was born in Forsyth County on May 30, 1934, to the late Margaret Fulton Mock and Jacob Pierce Mock. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church. Spaugh was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She enjoyed helping Bruce on the farm, cooking, and entering food contests at various fairs and events. She loved her grandchildren and in her later years, her great-grandchildren. Spaugh was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Floyd Mock; and husband, Bruce Albert Spaugh.  Surviving is a son, David Spaugh (Jayne); daughter, Lisa Spaugh Pilcher (Reggie); grandchildren, Adam Pilcher (Lauren), Jacob Spaugh (Brooke), Pearl Pilcher, Emily Blodinger (Jake), and Kalli Hicks (Chase); great-grandchildren, Allie and Reed Pilcher, Wyatt Spaugh, and Virginia Blodinger; also surviving are her brothers, Cecil Mock (Janette) and Carey Mock (Elaine); sisters-in-law, Edna Wooten and Ruth Mock and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Sharon United Methodist Church. Sandra Rice Strickland

Mrs. Sandra Rice Strickland, 78, of Mocksville, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Oct. 5, 1943, in Robeson County to Robert and Flaudia Britt Rice. Strickland was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Strickland in 1995. Surviving are her children, Teresa Pardue (Jeff), Nick Strickland (Donna), Andy Strickland and John Strickland (Chrissy); grandchildren, Lauren Beck (Chris), Courtney Greer (Rickey), Allison Pardue, Hali Greer (Tommy), Marissa Strickland, Gavin Strickland, Destiny Strickland and Gregory Longworth; and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Joel K. Boyles officiating.
