Three athletes from West Forsyth qualified for the NCHSAA 4-A state championships this week based on their performances from the Midwest 4-A Regional last Saturday at Davie County.
Tyson Adams, the reigning state indoor champion in the long jump, set a new personal record in winning the event at the regional with a jump of 24 feet, 4 inches. His jump was nearly three feet better than the runner-up.
Genysis Howard qualified in the girls long jump, finishing fourth with a distance of 16 feet, 3.25 inches.
And Nashiya Smart finished fourth in the discus after a throw of 111 feet, 11 inches.
To qualify for the state championships, athletes had to finish in the top-four in their events.
The 4-A state championship meet is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, and will be held at Belk Track at N.C. A&T in Greensboro.
