No. 26 Mooresville upsets No. 7 West in first round of 4-A soccer tournament

The West Forsyth girls soccer team fell in the first round of the NCHSAA 4-A state tournament on Monday night, losing to visiting Mooresville 4-2.

The game went back and forth throughout, with Mooresville opening the scoring before the Titans evened things at 1-1. Just before halftime, Mooresville found the back of a net to take a 2-1 lead at the break. West fought back again in the second half to tie the game at 2-2, only to see Mooresville tack on two more goals to finish off the win and advance to the second round.

West finished the season 15-6-1 overall and 12-0 in the Central Piedmont 4-A, winning the conference championship.

Softball team falls in second round at South Mecklenburg

The softball team lost 4-2 to No. 2 seed South Mecklenburg last Thursday in the second round of the NCHSAA 4-A state tournament.

After beating Charlotte Ardrey Kell 17-2 on the road in the first round, the Titans had hit the road again to take on South Mecklenburg before coming up just short.

The Titans finished the season 19-8.

Eldridge named to East-West All Star Football team

David Eldridge will have one more chance to represent West Forsyth. Eldridge, a 6-1, 290-pound defensive tackle who has signed to play football at Winston-Salem State, was named to West team for the annual East-West All Star game that will be played in Greensboro at Grimsley High School on Wednesday, July 13.

Rosters are selected by coaches in the game, but players must first be nominated by their coach.

The game pits some of the top graduating seniors from the eastern part of the state against the western part of the state.
