It was a great morning for football at the first annual Jalen Dalton Youth Football Camp at West Forsyth on Saturday, June 11.

Dalton graduated from West in 2015 after a standout career, played in college at UNC and in the NFL for the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints.

There were around 50 campers ranging in age from first grade through middle school.

Dalton said he hopes to continue to grow the experience and make it an annual event every year.

“I just want everyone to come out here and have fun,” Dalton said. “That’s the most important thing. And hopefully learn a little football while they are out here. I’m really excited about making this a huge event every year, really grow it into something special for everyone.”

Dalton and all the coaches were active and engaged with the kids, including having dance-offs and games of tag following drills.

Dalton would shuffle around to each of the drill stations and participate, offering encouraging words and high fives.

Most of the other coaches were former teammates at West, at UNC, and even Shy Tuttle, the former North Davidson and Tennessee standout who currently plays for the Saints.

“I’m proud of him and the person he is,” said Adrian Snow, the coach at West Forsyth, about Dalton. “This is a great thing for these kids and this community and I’m glad to see everybody enjoying themselves.”
