CLEMMONS, NC—Mrs. Mary Magdline “Mag” Brandon, 91, of Clemmons, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mag was born in Forsyth County on June 27, 1925, to the late William Lee Spaul and Amanda Elizabeth Reid Spaul. Mag was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church for 62 years. She worked in childcare as well as at Hanes Hosiery Mill. Mag married Robert Gray Brandon, Sr. on February 2, 1945. She was a city girl who met a country boy and they were together until he passed away on January 27, 2010. Mag was a godly woman who read her bible daily. She prayed for the needs of others, especially her family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Harvey Spaul, Ruth Wells, Frances Monaghan, Willie Spaul, Wilbur Spaul and Aaron Spaul. She was also preceded in death by Marion and Bessie Reid. Following Mag’s mother’s passing at a young age, Marion and Bessie took her in and raised her like their own child. Mag is survived by three children, Robert “Bob” Gray Brandon, Jr. and wife, Gale, Janice B. Wood and Cindy Gathje and husband, Bob; grandchildren, Lori Hill and husband, Jon, Jolie Brandon-Lecnar and husband, Scott, Mandy Brandon and friend, Shane, and Zach Gathje; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Hill, Sophie Lecnar, Evan Lecnar, Andrew Brandon, Hayden Vaughn, Kaleb Vaughn, and Lucas Vaughn; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty Alexander and husband, Herbert, Larry Brandon and wife, Carolyn, Linda Massengill, Wayne Brandon and wife, Gwen, Willa Brandon and Yvonne Brandon; and special friends, Darla Bonnet and Audrey Clampitt. Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Clemmons Moravian Church with Rev. Q. Ray Burke officiating. Interment followed in the church graveyard. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Senior Services Meals on Wheels, 2895 Shorefair Dr. NW, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or the Kate B.
