Kathy Lynn Brown Angel

Mrs. Kathy Lynn “MawMaw” Brown Angel, 70, passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, at Kernersville Medical Center. She was born July 4, 1952, in Anna, Illinois, the daughter of Loyd and Hilda Mae Yeargan Brown. She attended the old Kernersville Elementary and graduated in 1970 from East Forsyth High School.

A member of Triad Baptist Church, Kathy was a representative for State Farm Insurance for over 40 years. She was “ahead of her time,” organized, slow to anger and was honest and to the point. Devoted to her family, she never missed any event or gathering. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kevin Angel and a brother, Thomas DeWitt Brown. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Donald “Poopsie” Angel; daughter, Shannon Angel Wilson (Michael) of Kernersville; grandchildren, Allison Nicole Wilson of Kernersville and Aaron Michael Wilson of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Julia Bassett Brown of Kernersville; and her four granddogs, Daisy, Scooby, Ozzy and Moe and many family and friends.

A celebration of Kathy’s life was held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family  received friends from 4-5:30 p.m. at the funeral home before the service.

Betty Jean Danner Beeding

Mrs. Betty Jean Danner Beeding, 92, of Mocksville passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.  She was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Iredell County to the late Richard Munsie Danner and Clara Edna Heath Danner. Betty had retired from Belk department store with 24 years of service and was a member of Smith Grove United Methodist Church.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Alfred Beeding; brother, Richard Danner Jr.; and sister, Madge Boyles. Surviving are her son, Billy “Bill” Beeding (Jane) of Winston-Salem; daughter, Judy Ledford (Lannie), also of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Tim Beeding, Mary Garris, Cyndi Gentry and Sarah DeNito and great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Beeding, Dylan Luper, Auston Beeding, Eliana Beeding, Riley DeNito and Brayden Gentry; nephews, Gary Danner and Robbie Boyles and niece, Cathy Johnson.  A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m.  Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at Smith Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Gerald W. ‘Butch’ Clark

Gerald W. “Butch” Clark, 69, of Clemmons, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 27, 2022. Butch was born Aug. 7, 1953, in Forsyth County to the late Herman and Ethel Atkinson Clark. He operated his own carpet cleaning business for many years. Butch was a big supporter in his community, serving at West Forsyth High School where he volunteered with athletics and concessions. He enjoyed working in the yard and garden and was an animal lover, especially to his dog “Boy.” His favorite role in life was being a “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister Cathy Faust. Survivors include his wife, Vicki Clark; daughters, Holly Pegram and Anna Clark (Brian); grandchildren, Parker, Emmy and Madilyn; sisters, Debbie Honeycutt (Robert) and Pam Rutledge; and brother, Ricky Clark; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be honored in a private coastal celebration.

Linda Elizabeth Brandon Massengill

Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend Linda Elizabeth Brandon Massengill, 79, lifelong resident of Clemmons went home to Jesus on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022. She was surrounded by her loved ones as she embarked on this journey. In heaven, she joined her husband, Donald Gordon Moulton-Massengill; parents, William Franklin “Frank” Brandon and N. Lucinda Lawrence Brandon; sisters, Alberta Brandon Reid, Louise Brandon Evans, Melba Brandon; brothers, WF “June” Brandon, Willis Brandon, Robert Brandon, Floyd Brandon, Clyde Brandon, Howard Brandon, Gilbert Brandon and Bill Brandon. She is survived by her children, Pamela Massengill Furches-Howerton (Russell), Sherri Massengill Felton (Richard), Craig Massengill (Cyndi) and David Massengill; grandchildren, Jennifer Furches Coppola (Roman), Amanda Furches Herring (Marcus), Zoe Howerton, Gwyneth Howerton, Chelsea Felton Ferguson (Robert), Chad Felton (Anna), John Massengill, Rachel Massengill; great-grandchildren, Pascale Coppola, Marcello Coppola, Alessandro Coppola, Keats Herring, Vivian Ferguson; sister, Betty Brandon Alexander; brothers, Larry Brandon (Carolyn), and Wayne Brandon (Gwenda); and many nieces and nephews. Being part of such a large family with very deep roots in Clemmons, Lewisville, and Wachovia (Bethabara, Bethania and Salem) was an important part of who Linda was … she was “the 14th of 15 children.” As the family genealogist, she spent many hours in the Moravian Archives and the N.C. Room in the downtown Winston-Salem Library, connecting the dots of her family’s founding roots in our community. She was a lover of music, reading and travel, and gifted with a crochet hook, knitting needles, pencils/sketch pad, a beautiful singing voice, and a knack for storytelling. She had great stories, loved telling them, and the family loved listening to them. She attended Clemmons Elementary School and Southwest High School, graduating with the Class of 1961, she enjoyed a long career in management with AMP Inc., and was director of the Sample Room prior to retirement. Linda’s Christian faith was an integral part of her being, and church was an important part of her life; whether the church of her early years: the Church of Christ, Boyer’s Chapel and Warner’s Chapel or her middle to later years: Clemmons Moravian Church. A celebration of life service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at Clemmons Moravian Church with Rev. Christopher C. Thore officiating. Burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Marjean Link McMillan

Mrs. Marjean Link McMillan, 87, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022.  She was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Caldwell County to the late Horrace and Mary Link.  Marjean was a family woman who loved the Lord.  She attended Brookstown Methodist Church for more than 50 years where she was a part of the United Methodist Women. Marjean enjoyed many things in life, namely her family, especially her grandchildren; traveling the U.S. with her husband in their motorhome, as well as traveling internationally; splitting time between Pfafftown and the home at Surfside Beach; square and round dancing, where she made many lifelong friends; and volunteering at the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Lee McMillan Jr. and brothers, Vance Link and Gary Link.  Marjean is survived by her son, Edward Lee McMillan III (Troyanne); daughter, Melanie Lee McMillan; grandchildren, Matthew McMillan (Rachel), Allison Chandler (Chase), Brooke Beroth, Alana Wishon (David), and Benjamin Beroth; great-grandchildren, Ella Chandler, Gareth Chandler; and two great-grandchildren on the way; siblings, Sonya Hunter, Judy Drum (Kenneth), Mary Jo Herman, Robert Link (Jimmie), and Tommie Ann Hall (Keith); sister-in-law, Betty McMillan; and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.  The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Cadence of Clemmons for the loving care given to Marjean during her illness. A special thank you to Vickie Blair who was much more than a caregiver, she became family.  A memorial service was conducted 2 p.m., Monday Oct. 3, 2022, at Brookstown Methodist Church with Rev. James T. “Chip” Webb officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brookstown Methodist Church, 6274 Yadkinville Road, Pfafftown, NC 27040 or the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Roslyn Sue Arthur Peeler Rothrock

Mrs. Roslyn Sue Arthur Peeler Rothrock, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022. She was born Dec. 23, 1938, to the late Theodore Eugene Arthur and Louise Lemons Arthur. After graduating from Troy High School in 1957, Roslyn earned a teaching degree at Appalachian State University. While doing her student teaching, she met and married Thomas Peeler. The couple had two children and were married for almost 37 years before his death in 2001. She proudly taught first grade in Forsyth County Schools for 30 years. A faithful member of Olivet Moravian Church for more than 40 years, she served as a diener, elder and was active in the ladies’ circle group. Roslyn helped with many events including the Moravian chicken pie sales, barbecue fundraisers and bazaars. In 2003, she married Terry Rothrock, a fellow member of Olivet. They were married for 13 years before his death in 2016. She enjoyed cross stitching, playing bridge and going to the beach. A people person, she was always ready to go out to eat or on a trip with her friends. Roslyn was a devoted wife and dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although the family will miss her quick smiles and warm laughter, they have the peace of knowing that she is now with her Heavenly Father and that her family will see her again one day. In addition to her parents, Roslyn is preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Lee Peeler; second husband, Terry Rothrock; and brother, Wayman “Buddy” Arthur. She is survived by her two children, Jill Peeler Dillon (Johnnie) and Bradley Thomas Peeler; grandchildren, Zachary Dillon (Lauren), Sarah Dillon Diaz (Blake), and Amy Dillon; and great-grandchildren, Caroline Dillon and Rosalyn Dillon. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at Olivet Moravian Church Graveyard with Rev. Matthew Allen officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. David Sherrill Wall

Mr. David Sherrill Wall, 86, of Rural Hall passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on March 27, 1936, in Forsyth County to the late Margaret Tilley and Edward Wall.

David, also known as Sherrill, graduated from Mineral Springs High School in 1954. He was a people person who was a jack of many trades, including starting a salvage store, a construction business, The Wholesale Flower Mart, taking trips in his motor home, and driving a bus for QRT, Inc. Most recently, he loved serving his church, Temple Baptist Church in Lewisville, by helping to remodel the sanctuary and doing various odd jobs. He could fix or build most anything.

David was preceded in death by his parents; sister; wife of 26 years, Shirley Hester Wall; and his wife of 20 years, Barbara Frye Wall. Survivors include sons, Tim Wall (Michelle) of Rural Hall and Phil Wall of King; daughter, Lisa Foster (Mike) of Rural Hall; grandchildren, Hannah, Tori and Taylor Wall (Justin), Chad, Terry (Amber), and Amber Foster; former wife, Mary Groce Wall; three great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Sherri Winfrey (Roy) of Kernersville and Pamela Rogers (Kevin) of Lewisville; two step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at Temple Baptist Church in Lewisville, conducted by Pastor Josh Boles. The family received friends one hour prior to service.
