Despite the shortened week because of Thanksgiving break, many events were still in full swing. The girls wrestling team continued with their streak of invitationals meets, starting with finishing 11th out of 20 at the Roughedge Girls Rumble Invitational at Parkwood High School on Nov. 21. Savanna Stain was most successful on the team, scoring 15 of 32 points for the Titans and placed fourth in her weight class (185 pounds). Other top finishers for West included Hailey Jacinto (sixth, 120 pounds), Abirose Summers (fifth, 152 pounds), Isabela Ogilvie (fifth, 165 pounds) and Chloe Saunders (fifth, 245 pounds). The team then went on to compete at the Girls Jet Invitational at Enka High School, where they won the match over four other schools. Amber Summers was the high scorer for the Titans, securing 14 of West’s 56 points and finishing second in her weight class (114). All the other girls that competed also placed either first, second or third.
Both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams played their first games of the season on Nov. 29 against Southwest Guilford at Simpson Gymnasium.
The Titans will also play at North Forsyth on Friday night.
The varsity swim team’s first meet will also be held at home on Dec. 2. They will host the East Forsyth Eagles and the Mount Tabor Spartans to start off the Central Piedmont 4-A Conference season.
Many of the Performing Arts Departments will put on their winter or holiday concerts over the next couple of weeks. The performances kick off with the holiday chorus concert at 7 p.m. on Dec. 1 and follow with the dance concerts at 7 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 9 and the orchestra concert at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 12.
There are some important academic dates to note over the next few weeks for students as well. PSAT scores will be released through the College Board website on Dec. 6 for all students who participated. Make sure to sign up for a College Board account if you haven’t already so you can access test scores. Progress reports for the middle of second quarter will go out the following day, Dec. 7, and will be the last update before second quarter report cards go out on Feb. 1.
With the start of December this week, students and staff will continue to push through the second quarter. Keep up the good work, Titans!
