WS/FCS announces district science fair winners

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has selected the winners for its annual district science fair, as well as the students who will move on to the regional event.
About 175 aspiring scientists in grades K-12 presented projects on Jan. 12-13 at Kaleideum North. Sixty-two of those students earned third place or better (or an honorable mention) in categories including chemistry, physics, biology, earth science, technology and more. The 47 students who ranked third place or better in grades 3 and up will also get to compete at the Region 5 Science and Engineering Fair on Feb. 11, hosted by the Middle College at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Several students from Clemmons and Lewisville-area schools were recognized for their projects:
Grades 3-5 division:
Biological Sciences
• First place: Dorothy Wang, fourth grade, Southwest — “Relationship Between Peripheral Vision and Age”
Earth and Environmental
• First place: Morgan Chimiak, fifth grade, Lewisville — “Suck It Up”
Engineering and Technology
• Second place: Callen Garcia, third grade, Southwest — “Huff, Puff, and Blow Your House Down”
• Third place: Drew Ramaswaml, fifth grade, Lewisville — “Bridge Tester”
