The first full week of February came with a lot of exciting events in the “village.” Winter athletics finished off their regular seasons and have moved on to the postseason. The boys varsity basketball team continued their success, taking down Reynolds 68-48 on the road on Feb. 7 and then taking the win over East Forsyth 61-60 at home on Feb. 10, after losing a close one to the Eagles the week before. The Titans played Reynolds again in the first round of the Central Piedmont 4-A conference tournament on Monday. The girls varsity basketball team lost to Reynolds on the road 45-36 on Feb. 7, but bounced back to beat East Forsyth 46-28 at home on Feb. 10. They played East again on Monday in the first game of the conference tournament. Tryouts for spring sports, such as girls soccer, girls lacrosse, girls softball, boys baseball, boys court volleyball, boys tennis, boys golf and boys and girls beach volleyball are set to be held in the following weeks.
Auditions for the annual Titan Talent Showcase and Coffeehouse were held on Feb. 9. All students and staff members were encouraged to audition, either in person that afternoon or by video recording sent to drama department director Renae Hubbard. Tickets will be $5 at the door and all proceeds go to funding the spring musical, “Bye Bye, Birdie,” and new lights for the Performing Arts Center. Come out and support our talented Titans on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. in the PAC.
With registration coming up, students were sent to their home rooms on Feb. 9 to learn more about the class offerings and requirements for next school year, as well as to get their second quarter report cards and first semester transcripts. Per the WS/FCS district, some changes have been made to the graduation requirements, which took effect in January. Students are now only required to take one year of physical education and health, instead of the previous two years of PE and one year of life skills to go along with the one year of health. The life skills course will now be encompassed in the personal finance class, which was newly required starting with the class of 2024 at the beginning of this school year. The number of science credits required has now dropped to three as well. The previous credit list required one year of environmental science, one year of biology, one year of a physical science (usually chemistry) and one science elective. Now, only the first three are required, opening the door for many students to make room for the now required personal finance class or for another class of their choice.
Spring is on the way, and here at the village, the Titans are ready for what’s to come.
