March has finally hit the calendar, and that means Forsyth Creek Week is back for a fun-filled nine days of an assortment of events all throughout Forsyth County running from March 18-26.
Forsyth Creek Week, which is now entering its 11th year, is an annual chance to celebrate our local waterways that helps people understand and appreciate the importance of our local waterways through fun and informative activities. The Village of Clemmons has been heavily involved with this event for the past 10 years, and some popular activities from years past are returning again this year, such as Operation Medicine Drop and Family Fishing Fun.
Clemmons will kick off the event with Clemmons Creek Week Cleanup, where groups can pre-register that are interested in working together to clean up creeks/streams in their neighborhoods over the weekend of Saturday, March 18, and Sunday, March 19. If you don’t live near a stream, Clemmons will assign you a road to clean up. Individuals and/or groups can pre-register online at clemmons.org/494/Clemmons-Community-Cleanup or with the Clemmons Stormwater Department at 336-766-9170. Please have requests in by no later than 9 a.m. Friday, March 17, if you would like to participate. Requests received after that time unfortunately cannot be processed.
Family Fishing Fun is back after a three-year hiatus. Village staff is excited to bring some fun fishing activities to Village Point Lake, along with the fishing license being waived for the event. The event will run from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, March 19. There will be something for everyone, along with local food trucks to help curb that hunger. Parking for this event will be at Morgan Elementary School.
Operation Medicine Drop, always a huge hit in Clemmons, will be happening from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.  on Monday, March 20, at the Fire Station 14 on James Street, with cooperation from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. This event over the years has helped responsibly remove hundreds of pounds of unused and expired medications from households in the area. Only pills can be accepted, and this is for households only.
Clemmons Stormwater is also partnering with the Town of Kernersville again this year in distributing free shoreline garden vegetation kits for streambanks on Wednesday, March 22, and Thursday, March 23. Kits will be available for pickup in either Kernersville or Clemmons. Participants must sign up to receive their kit as there are limited supplies, and any walk ups who do not pre-register, will be turned away. Each participant will receive a kit with a variety of plugs of vegetation and instructions on how to plant them along stream banks. People can sign up for a kit either through the Forsyth Creek Week’s website or on the Village of Clemmons webpage. Limited supply will be available at either location.
Forsyth Creek Week is fortunate to have the support from local municipalities, organizations and a number of local sponsors to help sponsor these events, such as Battery Watering Technologies, Hayward Industries, Gradeworks LLC and North State Environmental as the presenting sponsor to name a few. For those of you looking at what else will be available throughout Forsyth County, the full sponsors list and the calendar of events can be found at http://www.forsythcreekweek.org. With over 50 events listed on the calendar, we are sure there is something for everyone! There is a bass fishing tournament, documentary series/movies, nature walks, bike rides, trivia nights, Lunch and Learns, cleanups, and library programs just to name a few. Come join your community in celebrating the waterways that help make our community thrive.
