They were tantalizingly close to dethroning defending conference champion Reagan.
But in spite of a strong first-place effort in the final event of the night — the 400 freestyle relay — the West Forsyth girls swim team came up just a few points short at the Central Piedmont Conference high school swim team championships at Winston-Salem State University last Friday night.
Reagan captured the top spot in the meet with a final team score 322.5 points. West was second with 306 points. Mount Tabor placed third with a score of 158.5.
West turned in a tremendous effort at the meet, delivering first-place performances in six of the 11 events.
Individually, Morgan Tacik led the way for West by claiming first in two individual events and first as a team member in the 400 free relay. Tacik was first in the 200 IM and also won the 100 free.
Meghan Joram, Ally Warnimont and Sarah Joram also turned in first-place efforts for West.
M. Joram won the 100 fly and was also second in the 200 free.
Warnimont won the 50 free and placed second in the 100 back while S. Joram was the winner in the 500 free.
Both Jorams and Warnimont teamed with Tacik on the meet-winning 400 free relay team.
• In boys competition, an outstanding Reagan team took top honors with a final score of 325 points. West finished second with 225 points while Davie County claimed third with a final tally of 169.5.
George Vlahos led West by claiming first place in the 200 free. Vlahos also scored with a second-place finish in the 100 breast.
Jake White was the only other Titan to record a top-three finish in individual competition. He was third in the 100 back.
