An apple a day: Lewisville Historical Society hosts Tom Brown and the discovery of old Southern apples

LEWISVILLE — The public is invited to attend the Lewisville Historical Society membership meeting on Sept. 11 for a special treat.
The program will be entitled “Tom Brown and the Discovery of Old Southern Apples.”
Brown, who lives in Clemmons and is married to Lewisville Historical Society President Merrikay Brown, will describe how he got into the business of saving lost southern apple varieties, the importance of it, and the stories that come along with each discovery.
Brown has researched, found and restored to the apple trade 1,200 varieties.
The event begins at 6 p.m., is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Mary Alice Warren Community Center, which is located at 7632 Warren Park Drive in Lewisville.
Light refreshments will be served.
