It’s that time of year again, the time where schools and student bodies across the country gather to celebrate the community of a new school year: Homecoming. This year, for the Titans, homecoming was far earlier than usual, falling the week of Sept. 25 instead of its usual time in mid-October. That wasn’t the only thing that made this year unique, however. The Student Government Association (SGA), Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and school administration put together a few more fun activities to get the Titans into the West Forsyth spirit.

Spirit Week for Homecoming was a go as usual, but instead of the administration picking the themes for students to vote on, the SGA came up with the themes instead. After a few days of voting, the themes that emerged were ones that students felt were reflective of their desires. The SGA also held a new “Best Dressed” competition this year to amp up the fun and allow students to win prizes like donuts and Amazon gift cards for their spirited efforts. The school week ended with a 46-13 Homecoming football victory over Glenn, with a wild West Wacko crowd presiding over the game. The Homecoming King (Caleb David) and Homecoming Queen (Naviya Williams) were also recognized along with the rest of the Homecoming Court Friday under the stadium lights.

For the first time in about 20 years, West also gave in to another popular student request: a Homecoming dance. The dance was held in the Harold E. Simpson Gymnasium, affectionately called “the new gym” by students, the evening of Saturday, Sept. 30. The dance featured a variety of music and photo opportunities that allowed West students to showcase their style and school spirit. Although the dance could only host 500 people, many students still got the opportunity to go and have a good time, and hopefully, the dance will become a tradition in the village so students can enjoy this exciting opportunity for years to come.

The Titans certainly had a blast during the new and improved Homecoming week, enjoying the community and spirit the only way they know how: as One West.
