CLEMMONS — As the weather gets warmer around campus, the Titans remain busy, keeping the village lively during the first part of this spring semester.
Every year, nominations are given for different staff and administrative awards. Nominated candidates are then voted on by their fellow staff members to determine a winner.
The 2023-24 school year results are as follows: Assistant Principal of the Year was award to Ayonna Sutton-Chaplin; Certified Instructional Personnel of the Year went to Becca Oshige; Classified Employee of the Year was won by Michelle Walters; and Teacher of the Year was given to Scott Armstrong.
The Student Government Association (SGA) is still selling Valentine’s Day Candy Grams today and tomorrow for $1 in the cafeteria lobby. Stop by during any lunch to get a nice treat for that special someone.
With North Carolina’s primary elections rolling around on March 5, this is the first year that the current West seniors will be eligible to vote. If you are 18 or will be 18 by the time of the general election in November, then you can vote with valid voter registration. The deadline for voter registration for the March 5 primary is Friday, Feb. 9. Seniors, if you are interested in having your voice heard in this year’s elections, stop by your local DMV before then to register.
If you miss the deadline, you can still vote in the general elections in November as long as you register by Oct. 11. The North Carolina State Board of Elections website is a great place to start if you want to learn more.
In sports news, Titan winter sports teams are pushing for a strong finish to their seasons with only a few more games of regular season play left. The boys basketball split last week, starting with a 70-56 win over Glenn on the road on Jan. 30, followed by a loss on the road to Reagan 73-66 on Feb. 2. The boys’ schedule is all home games this week after a four-game road stint; they faced Davie on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and will host R.J. Reynolds tomorrow, Feb. 9. The girls varsity basketball team rode a three game win streak into this week, with 40-26 and 34-27 road wins over Glenn and Reagan, respectively. The girls will also face Davie and R.J. Reynolds this week, and both teams will take on East Forsyth and Mount Tabor next week to finish up their regular seasons.
Enjoy the warmer weather and keep up the good work, Titans.
