I looked up the Republican who is challenging Congresswoman Foxx in the N.C. primary. He had no distinction from Foxx except he wants term limits.

Mr. Mayberry taps into a sentiment that leads me to be assured that he lacks the understanding that makes the U.S. government subordinate to the people/voters who are sovereign.

He supports term limits which impose the will of the governing people on the voters. Every time there is a term limit the people are denied a candidate choice. If the voters of Nancy Pelosi’s district want to re-elect her, they should be free to do so. I’ve heard conservative North Carolina voters wish Pelosi was term limited. Usually, the people wanting term limits want to end the terms of people for whom they cannot vote and do not like.

Not only does this take away my right to vote, it guarantees that bureaucrats, staffers, regulators and lobbyists will run congressional offices and voting outcomes. Congress members must work against all of those interests because congress members know they work for the voters not those other power groups.

If a re-elected official who is not in your state or district is disliked by you, that’s too bad. In reverse, don’t tell me how to vote by eliminating a candidate I want.

When I was a boy, I was told that term limits were placed on the presidency because Roosevelt was killed by too many terms and the hard work over too many years. But it was really about congress wanting to limit the growing powers of the executive branch.

If you seek to limit congressional terms you will transfer power to the other power groups which I mentioned above. You will eliminate my sovereignty as a voter and your own.
