CLEMMONS — With this Leap Day bringing February to a close, comes the plethora of activities and events that the month of March hosts each year.
West Forsyth students were the stars of the show for WS/FCS administration this past Tuesday. Juniors Addison Nix and Reese Gardner, who are set to co-lead the Titans’ musical production of “Anastasia” in March, were invited to perform at the Feb. 27 WS/FCS School Board meeting, singing their character’s opening number “In My Dreams” for the board, superintendent and all in attendance. “Anastasia” opens in the Anderson Performing Arts Center (APAC) on March 20, with a matinee performance for other local high school and middle school drama programs, and runs for the general public from March 21-23 at 7 p.m. Save the date to come watch these talented Titans perform.
All juniors at West took the ACT on Tuesday per state graduation requirements. However, aspects of the test were different this year; for the first time ever, the test was entirely digital, instead of on paper. Due to the influx of computers that had to be on the school WiFi network, West opted to cut off internet service to the rest of the school to prevent any test mishaps. Since this is the first year of the digital ACT option being available, the efficiency of the exam has yet to be determined, and West will decide again after this year if they want to go back to the classic paper test or not.
Winter sports with the most successful seasons have moved into their respective playoffs; boys varsity basketball faced off against Mooresville at home on Tuesday to kick off their stint in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) state playoffs. Spring sports began to kick off their seasons this week as well. The varsity baseball team won their first game on the road 1-0 against Forbush on Monday and hosted Atkins for their first home game yesterday.
They visit West Stokes tomorrow to close out their first week of the season. The girls varsity soccer team started their season at Northwest Guilford yesterday evening and are set to host Northern Guilford tomorrow night to close out the week. The boys varsity lacrosse team hosted Mount Tabor on Tuesday and the girls varsity lacrosse team visits Northwest Guilford tomorrow in their respective season openers.
West will be closed on this coming Monday and Tuesday, March 4 and 5, along with the other WS/FCS schools for the weather reserve days. Enjoy your long weekend, Titans.
