LEWISVILLE — The Town of Lewisville will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on Wednesday, June 12, from 1-5 p.m. at the Mary Alice Warren Community Center at 7632 Warren Pk. Dr.
For more information or to make an appointment to donate, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or sign up online at RedCrossBlood.org with sponsor code Lewisville.
Both blood donations and Power Red donations are accepted at this drive.
A blood donation is the most common type of donation, during which approximately a pint of ‘whole blood’ is given. This type of blood donation usually takes an hour.
A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A negative, B negative, or O blood.
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.
The Red Cross has stated that donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative, and B negative.
