CLEMMONS — It was all to benefit a nonprofit organization called Help Hope Live.

KJ Henry, the son of Help Hope Live client Keith Henry, returned to Clemmons, to host a celebrity basketball game and youth football camp last month.

Entering his second year in the NFL with the Washington Commanders, KJ has been pledging his time, talent, and voice to supporting Help Hope Live following the mission’s impact on his own family.

“Honestly, there were just so many that gave back to me when I was growing up,” Henry said. “I want to give that feeling to some kids around here.”

We were grateful and excited for a chance to be a part of KJ’s efforts: our Executive Director Kelly L. Green and Director of Outreach Sonny Mullen spread the word about Help Hope Live as part of KJ’s community initiatives.

Help Hope Live’s mission is to support community-based fundraising for people with unmet medical expenses and related costs due to cell and organ transplants or catastrophic injuries and illnesses.

Members of Help Hope Live don’t believe that a medical crisis should become a financial crisis. Even with health insurance, a medical crisis can create a significant financial burden most families cannot meet alone.

“For 40 years, Help Hope Live has been showing clients and families how to bring together a network of relatives, friends, and neighbors in fundraising efforts to help cover the cost of uninsured medical expenses,” the organization’s website says. “These efforts play a critical role in helping our clients recover and maintain their health and independence.”Since 1983, we have helped thousands of people raise millions of dollars for Help Hope Live to pay a wide range of expenses, including out-of-pocket costs for: medications, durable medical equipment, home health care, wheelchair-accessibility modifications, physical therapy, innovative treatments, medical travel and temporary relocation, even emergency living assistance. Our program has also helped thousands pay it forward and assist others with their medical expenses.”Annually, the organization helps place medical care within reach of about 5,600 families across the nation.
